Thursday, 13 December 2007 http://www.stuff.co.nz/4322795a12.html Police in six countries have arrested 40 people, including 14 in Australia, during co-ordinated raids which authorities say have smashed an important international drug ring. Australian Federal Police said today international law enforcement officers had seized 600kg of cocaine, 111kg of ice, 83kg of ecstasy and 1200kg of materials used to produce ice and ecstasy. The Australian end of the operation, launched in August after drugs were found concealed in suitcases from Canada, involved officers from Customs, the AFP, the NSW police, the Australian Crime Commission and the NSW Crime Commission. from:smh.com.au http://www.smh.com.au/news/national/illici...7740183595.html Firstly, I don't think teens should take drugs, including alcohol. I started at 14 and think it was way too young. Funny that this article seems to suggest alcohol as a gateway drug. Personally I think alcohol is probably the most serious drug problem of all. I still have problems thinking of cannabis as a drug of addiction as my own experience is that it is ridiculously easy to give up. 14% there for cannabis addiction! I guess everyones different.

Not even the hint of a suggestion that tobacco use could possibly CAUSE mental illness - yet if Politicians or the Media get a story about cannabis it's cause without proof! Really makes me angry how easily the public swallows this shit, and how most people won't even register the clear hypocrisy and lack of substance of the "cannabis psychosis" mantra: http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,22908849-421,00.html By Tamara McLean December 11, 2007 04:47pm Article from: AAP Font size: + - Send this article: Print Email PEOPLE with mental illness are three times more likely to smoke, and experts say not enough is being done to help this vulnerable group quit. HOMES in south-west Sydney, where police have seized $15 million in marijuana during raids, may be part of an elaborate hydroponic growing network. Since April police have discovered 5000 marijuana plants growing in almost a dozen houses. Detective Inspector Gus Viera, head of the Wetherill Park region enforcement squad, said detectives had not ruled out a connection between the houses. "Investigations into any possible link are ongoing," he said. The most recent raids, on November 7, netted 415 hydroponically grown cannabis plants worth an estimated $2 million from two houses in Rawson Road, Fairfield West. A man and woman were charged. The raids were part of…

ABOUT 60 per cent of Aborigines smoke marijuana regularly and most of those get stoned every day, a Northern Territory study shows. New figures on cannabis rates among indigenous people show a drug use rate far higher than the Australian average, with researchers saying it is "firmly entwined" in the society. Researchers at James Cook University in Cairns and the University of Sydney surveyed 164 people in Arnhem Land in 2006 and found 61 per cent of men and 58 per cent of women used cannabis at least weekly. In-depth interviews with 60 users found that 92 per cent of the men and 78 per cent of the women smoke it daily, according to the study published in the Medica…

I might be moving to Adeliade in a year and was wondering what the cannabis scene was like there, I am in QLD now and its very uptight here and there is even a law against water pipes. In fact I am more curious what the glass scene is like there, does anyone know any local blowers / lamp workers ? Are there any on here ? I'd really be into meeting up with you, especially if I move into the area.

A man has been jailed for at least 20 years for the "appalling and baffling" murder of his 11-year-old stepson and the knifing of the boy's mother. In the NSW Supreme Court, Justice Peter Hidden accepted that the 24-year-old man, who had no history of violence, could not explain his behaviour and had no memory of it. "His depression, his intoxication and his withdrawal from cannabis provide some explanation for the level of his violence, but what triggered it remains a mystery," he said. "The case is both appalling and baffling." The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to murdering the boy and to causing grievous bodily harm to his partner, wit…

Six people have been arrested and a sophisticated drug ring supplying marijuana around Brisbane smashed after early morning police raids in Brisbane yesterday. It is the second large marijuana bust in Brisbane in a week. The six people arrested will face 56 charges in Brisbane and Southport magistrates courts today including drug trafficking. More than $4.4 million in cash has been frozen by police and financial investigators from the Crime and Misconduct Commission. Two commercial drug farms were located during the raids and other properties may be seized as the investigations deepen, police said. Police seized 63 marijuana plants and about 4.6 cannabis as…
