British Crime Survey statistics showed that the proportion of 16- to 24-year-olds using cannabis slumped from 28% a decade ago to 21% now, with its declining popularity accelerating after the decision to downgrade the drug to class C was announced in January 2004. The BCS figures published yesterday showed that cannabis is beginning to lose its allure with teenagers. The proportion of frequent users in the 16-24 age group, who were using the drug more than once a month, fell from 12% to 8% in the past four years. Since cannabis was downgraded the proportion of young people using it has fallen each year from 25.3% in 2003-4 to 20.9% now. Among those aged 16 to 59, the pr…

Melbourne Regional Response Unit members yesterday executed a search warrant at a flat in Carlton, where they uncovered heroin with an approximate street value of $30,000 and 'ice' valued at around $5,000. "A small amount of cannabis was also seized along with equipment for trafficking and stolen goods including a plasma TV, projector, DVD player, mobile phones and luxury watches," a Victoria Police spokeswoman said. What's Inside: Nyquil, Fortified With Powerful Narcotics! 2007-10-23 >> news category >> general Source: wired.com Acetaminophen One of the many wonder-pharmaceuticals that can be derived from coal tar, acetaminophen was used for nearly a century as a painkiller and fever reducer before anyone figured out how it worked. We now know that as the drug breaks down in the body, it turns into a cannabinoid: yes, stoners, the same type of compound that makes marijuana so irresistible. Doctors also once thought acetaminophen made users more talkative and outgoing. Current research suggests this idea was half-baked. Dextromethorphan HBr A cough suppress…

Ali plucks a sprig of the cannabis sativa plant and sniffs its distinctive leaves with appreciation. This Lebanese farmer's field of marijuana, a splash of bright green on the sun-baked plains of eastern Lebanon's Bekaa Valley, will yield around 33 pounds of cannabis resin, or hashish, which he will sell for about $10,000, many times more than he could hope to earn from legitimate crops and for almost no work at all. "All I have to do is throw the seeds on the ground, add a little water, and that's it," says Ali, who spoke on the condition that his full name was not used. "I would be crazy not to grow [marijuana]." It has been a bumper year for marijuana cultivation …

RISING dependence on cannabis is the driver behind a Wodonga program to help users quit the drug. The first session of Cautious with Cannabis will be run at Wodonga’s Upper Hume Community Health Service on November 12 at 6pm. Service rural outreach diversion worker, Nick Bannon, said about 300,000 Australians used cannabis each day. Mr Bannon said there is no specific usage figures available for the North East. “But the number of cannabis users is always growing. It’s growing on a daily basis,” he said. Cautious with Cannabis is aimed just as squarely at family and friends as cannabis users. “It explains exactly what cannabis is and how it is used, the effects…

Does anyone think high profile people who get busted could be recruited to campaign the cause against prohibition in general? If there were enough of them it might start to have an effect. Lot's of Michelle (what's her name?_got busted with e in Bali) might be nice. Gotta take support from the mainstream media. BTW... did anyone see that US. Presidential Candidate Ron Paul called for an end to the War on Drugs?....clever man. I wish we had someone with the balls he's got.

Here's more hate from the USA. Why do stories, even in high brow rags like The Economist, always focus on the supply side of Cannabis ? There wouldn't be a supply side without demand. What kind of economic reportage is this anyways ?? Home-grown Oct 18th 2007 | CHINO HILLS From The Economist print edition Forget wine—California's biggest crop is bright green and funny-smelling SUBURBS don't come much tidier than Chino Hills, 30 miles (50 km) east of downtown Los Angeles. Last year, the neighbourhood of coffee-coloured stucco houses and three-car garages boasted an average household income twice that of the nation as a whole. In Vista del Sol, one of its quiet enclav…

A woman who accepted a package from a garda dressed as a postman has been found not guilty of possessing cannabis for sale or supply. Judge Patrick McCartan said that the evidence in the case had been "tampered with". Cannabis Use, Effect And Potential Therapy For Alzheimer's, MS and Parkinson's Science Daily — Cannabis (marijuana) is the most widely produced plant-based illicit drug worldwide and the illegal drug most frequently used in Europe. Its use increased in almost all EU countries during the 1990s, in particular among young people, including school students. Cannabis use is highest among 15- to 24-year-olds, with lifetime prevalence ranging for most countries from 20--40% (EMCDDA 2006). Recently there has been a new surge in the level of concern about potential social and health outcomes of cannabis use, although the available evidence still does not provide a clear-cut un…

Hey all. I'm using my wife's vista based computer, and every time I go to sign in at this web site's sign in page, I only type "R" and it gives me the option of my username to choose from. Call me paranoid, but if the law were to sit at the keyboard, I'd like them to work a little harder to figure out my internet identity. I've played around in "Security" and other settings, have disbaled a setting specifically sounding like it's the culprit, something like "complete username and passwords", which I of course disabled. But I still have the problem. Anyone got any ideas? thanks guys rob

Well the Federal election has finally been called - November 24th 2007. If you are not enrolled to vote you have until Wednesday night 8pm (17th October) to get yourself enrolled. Who are you guys voting for and why? To kick it off - I'm voting Green. They have intelligent policies, and they're all available on their website year round to read - the other parties hide their policies, or radically change them with each election cycle. In particular the Greens have a sensible position on illicit drugs. They were forced to temper their position at the last Federal election, so explicit legalisation of cannabis has unfortunately taken a back seat - but the State bas…

So when Baker woke to the sounds of Salvador, his Mexican Red-headed parrot, saying "hello, hello" he knew something was wrong. Baker grabbed his gun and shot the burglar in his garage.
