I heard a rumor today that Qld passed news laws with much harsher consequences for smokers/dealers..anything pot. I know they banned buying even cones the other day, and a "swoop" today yeilded 100 grand worth of implements still being sold at tabbaconists, in Brisbane and the Gold Coast. If it wasn't so serious it's be comical. But please, can anyone give me reliable news about any changes to the penalties in Qld? I'm moving toward the end of the year, I'll go to NSW if that's the case. BTW, how's the harshness in NSW these days? Obviously better than QLD, but still, is it on the way "up" or "down" at the moment in NSW? Here's a link on the big bust on cones to…

Another story from www.news.com.au/sundaytelegraph http://www.news.com.au/sundaytelegraph/sto...5001021,00.html Not really much of a story. Two people photographed smoking a jay. However you can comment. THERE IS ALSO A POLL ON LEGALISING CANNABIS AT THE TELEGRAPH. WE WILL LOSE IT BUT PLEASE VOTE ANYWAY. There is also a blog at the smh.com.au about politicians, pot and hypocrisy if you'd like to comment. The intro is a bit long to post. It seems a little can of worms has been opened by Daniel Johns, if nothing else. http://blogs.smh.com.au/newsblog/archives/...ght/014551.html

There's an article over at the SMH site about pot: http://blogs.smh.com.au/newsblog/archives/...ght/014551.html There's also an opportunity to add to the comments, so here's a chance to have a bit of a speak up on a national level, you can do it anonymously if you like. But while it's in the public spotlight at the moment we should strike while the iron is hot. C'mon M8'S less talk more action. ;-) N

from brisbanetimes.com.au At this rate both sides of government will be full of x-pot smokers before the election. Of course none of them do it NOW do they. They are too busy drinking wine from the vineyards that they own or have shares in. No wonder pot remains illegal.

from smh.com.au Anyone hoping for a change from Labour may be in for disappointment. I still think his government would be less hard line though. Labour may be more likely to treat it as a health problem. Personally I am voting Greens next election.

"Marijuana capital Nimbin facing 'overdue' cop crackdown" By Samantha Williams July 07, 2007 01:00am Article from: The Daily Telegraph. * Police 'had enough' of blatant drug-dealing * Force doubled to cope with "rising crime" * New York-style "broken windows" approach IT'S the town that has continued to break the law with its laissez-faire attitude to drugs. But after years of open drug dealing on the streets as well as a rising tide of violence, police have had enough. Local Area Commander Bruce Lyons, the man in charge of policing the far North Coast town, is now taking a zero tolerance policy to drugs. He is fed up with the decades-old drug c…

THESE are the state-of-the-art devices that police say will help them win the war against drugged drivers. Police unveiled the saliva drug-testing kits for The Sunday Times this week, ahead of the illicit amphetamine summit on Tuesday. Supt Nigel White said the roadside tests would give police the ability to snare doped-up drivers who compromised community safety. "Police have been looking forward to these tests for quite some time,'' he said. "We know there is a problem out in the community with drugs, but one of the biggest issues is people driving drug-impaired and the difficulties in detecting that.'' Under the new laws, police will be able to take a sample of s…

ALMOST 200 mature cannabis plants with a street value of more than $500,000 were seized yesterday during a raid by Tweed/Byron police on properties near Ewingsdale. A 42-year-old Possum Creek man was arrested after a joint investigation by the Tweed/Byron LAC Target Action Group (TAG) and police intelligence led them to two properties, one in Possum Creek and the other in Ewingsdale. The raid, which occurred early yesterday morning, uncovered 186 mature cannabis plants, a street quantity of ecstasy and methylamphetamines, $10,700 cash and a large quantity of cannabis cultivation equipment. Detective Frank Natoli, of TAG, said police were confident that the illic…

In two separate incidents at Sydney's North Shore, more than $1,000,000 worth of ecstasy and cannabis was uncovered by police yesterday. The drug haul follows the discovery of a clandestine lab and 10 kilograms of cocaine at addresses in Artarmon, Turramurra and West Ryde last month, but police said the North Shore was not being targeted for drugs. "It's more opportune than anything else. The timing is just coincidental, I would think," police spokesman David Rose said. He said an operation focusing on the North Shore's drug trade was not under way, and the two arrests made last night were not planned in conjunction with each other. In the first arrest, police too…

MORE than 50 per cent of Australia's prisoners tested positive to cannabis over the past year, a report has found. The Australian Institute of Criminology today released two comprehensive reports focusing on drug use and intimate relationship violence among prison detainees. The data was collected from more than 4500 people in police custody at nine sites across the nation. The data was taken from voluntary questionnaires filled out by the police detainees, 70 per cent of whom also provided urine tests. The report showed that drug use and intimate relationship violence was high among detainees. More than 50 per cent tested positive for cannabis, nearly a quarter…

THE VICTIM of a violent burglary in Ballarat East admitted to being "stoned and drunk" at a committal hearing yesterday. Giving evidence against an alleged attacker, Geoffery McGinness told Ballarat Magistrates Court he was a "dole bludger" who consumed alcohol and marijuana daily. "I'm stoned and drunk right now," he said. "I had a stubby over lunch, I have cannabis every day." The 21-year-old swore repeatedly during the hearing, drawing several warnings from Magistrate Luisa Bazzani. Ms Bazzani eventually left the bench in frustration, telling Crown prosecutor Andrew Grant to "speak to" his witness. The defendant in the case, Shane John Warren, was allegedly…
