QUEENSLAND Premier Anna Bligh has admitted to smoking marijuana as a teenager in the 1970s. Ms Bligh said she gave it up because it made her sick. "Like many other people in the late 1970s, yes I did encounter marijuana at parties, but I'm pleased to say, for my sake, it made me sick and I didn't go on to become anyone who used it regularly," she said. Ms Bligh's admission comes days after Federal Treasurer Wayne Swan admitted to smoking the drug in his youth. However, Ms Bligh said smoking the drug was not the major regret of her teenage years. "What I have major regrets about is ever trying a cigarette and smoking for 10 years of my life," she said. "If I coul…

Source: www.news.com.au it sounds like a few pollies are coming out about their drug use when they were younger and are saying they are merely human and if they tried drugs its their business and theirs alone bloody double standard pricks, although hopefully if enough of them come out admitting drug use it will prove people can use without becoming total losers

TREASURER Wayne Swan yesterday spoke publicly for the first time about his failed first marriage and drug-taking in his younger days. Mr Swan, 53, said he had nothing to hide by previously being private about "challenging" chapters of his personal life. "There has been nothing secret about any of these events. They were very public at the time. Obviously people now find it interesting given my new job," he said in Brisbane yesterday. Mr Swan has been married for nearly 24 years to former political adviser Kim Williamson. They have three children. Yesterday he confirmed he had a brief marriage in the late 1970s that ended in divorce. He said the marriage to Toni Jens…

The only reason I posted this is for the last sentence. I found it on http://abc.net.au/news I would imagine that every single grower, bar none, would prefer to sacrifice their crop if it meant that they didnt get caught. What a stupid comment.

From http://www.goldcoast.com.au/article/2008/0...lead-story.html Not sure if this has been posted yet, delete it if it has. -- February 27, 2008 11:35am Green thumb prunes cannabis into hedge Tony Wilson 27Feb08 IT looked like an average Nerang back yard with an above-ground pool and neatly trimmed hedges. But a closer look at the shrubbery revealed they were actually cannabis plants and that put a new twist on the expression 'cultivating drugs'. Nerang officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Gary Symons said police yesterday removed 30 healthy and mature plants, some more than 2m tall, with a street value of more than $100,000. The plants, trimmed an…

http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story...5013404,00.html from theaustralian. The only reason I've posted this is to draw your attention to the bullshit reporting. The article clearly tries to link violence, suicide and mental illness with cannabis (or ganja and grog coz we are talking about aboriginals; can't call it cannabis and alcohol=racist language) I have a feeling that if you took away cannabis and just left the alcohol the problems would remain. Hands up who feels homicidal after a few cones? No one. Reading this kind of shit really pisses me off.

* One in 10 12- to 17-year-olds regularly binge-drinking * Figure rises to one in five for 16- and 17-year-olds * Australian mums-to-be 'need to get on the wagon' THE scourge of alcohol abuse across Australia is far worse than previously thought, with one in five 16- and 17-year-olds now binge-drinking in any given week and nearly 500,000 children living at risk of exposure to an adult drinking at harmful levels. The figures on cannabis use are equally disturbing, with one in seven secondary school students using the drug within the past 12 months. The problem has been allowed to reach such plague proportions because most Australians consider drinking and dr…
