Police seize $650,000 cannabis plants — Narrabri

Monday, 10 Mar 2008 04:38pm

Police have seized cannabis worth about $650,000 after a search of a property near Narrabri, in the state’s north-west, at the weekend.

The seizure followed a tip-off from a member of the public who recognised a light plane linked to last week’s $77million drug seizure in remote Western Australia.

Police from Barwon Local Area Command were advised the plane, shown in news coverage of the multi-million dollar bust, had previously been based at Narrabri airport.

Local officers attended the airport and seized a car allegedly used by the owner of the plane. They seized several items during a search of the vehicle.

Further inquiries led police to a property in the Pilliga State Forest, about 30km south of Narrabri, where officers allegedly seized several hundred cannabis plants and a quantity of cannabis head.

A quantity of hydroponics equipment was also located at the scene.

Investigators are seeking further public assistance as they continue their inquiries into the cannabis haul.

Anyone with information that might assist police is urged to contact Narrabri Police Station on (02) 6792 7199 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
