Hello everyone this is my first post so please excuse me if im breaking a rule or something. Ive got a small space in a closet about 55cm high and 30cm x 30cm width/length. Im brand new to indoor grows and at the moment only have a screw in fluro light (one of the energy saving ones..) in there. The seeds have only just been planted and havnt sprouted yet. Im guessing the bulb i have isnt worth shit so I want something a bit better and was thinking a few of the "industrial" style long fluro tubes (shorter though) would fit in there quite nicely. Are there any tubes i can buy that would fit the units and supply good quality light to my plants? If not what other options …

Found this lux meter in the discontinued/blowout bin at Bunnings. Marked down to $20 from $40 from $godknowshat. Lux is the SI unit for luminous intensity spread over a given area. 1 lumen spread over 1 square metre is 1 lux. The meter's instructions say that it measures 0-50,000 lux. This range is again specified on the switchplate of the meter. However, the LCD can display 0-1999 and there are three ranges, x1, x10 and x100. If you believe the LCD and multiplier, the unit should be able to measure up to 199,900 lux. Maybe it's just overloaded past 50K lux. Dunno. The instructions unfortunately are written in Chinglish. Now, wot clever soul can convert l…

HID and fluoro lights contain a few mg of mercury. I wouldn't think they should go in household rubbish, but I imagine that's where most of them go now. All the same, I don't want to show up on the council's hazardous waste collection day with a dozen 1000W HPS bottles if ya know wot I mean. Anyone thought about environmentally safer, secure disposal? Will your hydro shop take back old tubes for safe disposal?

Now that I've seen some of the results that people are getting I was wondering what sort of shades they use? And why you think they are the best? Jimbo

Can i place my carbon filter on the outside of the growspace's exhaust fan? I hear that u should put it inside the grow room so air comes through the filter. But can i have it outside so air push's out of the filter? Thats a lot of air moving fast, but it would make things a lot easier for me. Any help appreciated.

Hello, i just recently purchased a Sunleaves Pulsar 2.0 Switchable ballast. It can use both MH and HPS bulbs. I was very exited about using this Ballast and not having to use Conversion bulbs, but i was reading somewhere that people don't like these switchable ballasts and bulbs can burn our prematurely or explode. Now maybe people were talking about old ones, or homemade ones, but it still got me worried. I bought the ballast because my old ballast ran hot and i was worried about a fire. So basically, do i need to worry, or did i make a good purchase. Safety is number 1 priority for me, so i was curious about the ballast and the company. Does anyone have anything t…

I have a drama which is too involved to go into but basically puts me in the situation where I have to turn the light off in my cupboard tonight - meaning that the plants will have 36hrs of dark in a row. They are at 5 and 1/2 weeks flower for anyone not reading the diary. Will this screw them? Will it cause any damage? Jimbo

I had an old ballast mad in 94 and the thing was running so damn hot! I got scared of potentially starting a fire so i bought a new one, Pulsar 2.0 or something. So the thing runs great, its totally warm to the touch, but not as scorching as the old one i had. During a water change i accidentally unplugged the lamp, the ballast got a little louder so i turned it all off. It seems to be running just fine though now. I was worried about that, maybe anyone has any info on that kind of thing.... So i decided to move the ballast up in the loft area to avoid any more unplugging or water spillage near it, and its a lot warmer up there. My question is is the ballast going to be…

if I was to hang multiple 600W bulbs above one another in a chain, how far apart vertically should they be? Am I right in assuming about a metre? And if they are run in a tube of sorts - like a giant cool tube - what size fans are generally used to cool bulbs? And would you blow the air past them from the bottom of the light tube or would you suck it out at the top? And finally... do bulbs emit stronger light from the tip or from the sides of the bulb? As you can see...I have a new setup in the making... Jimbo

Im growing indoors for the first time and ive put my faith in these lights http://cgi.ebay.com.au/2-FLURO-LAMPS-REFLE...8QQcmdZViewItem The claim is that these lights are different from normal fluoros of the past in that 100W power is equivalent to 400W. Has anyone used these lights? If so did you get good results? Ive been growing Hindu Kush under them for a few weeks and so far its good but they are still young.
