Vertical lighting tips

Recommended Posts

if I was to hang multiple 600W bulbs above one another in a chain, how far apart vertically should they be? Am I right in assuming about a metre? :peace:

And if they are run in a tube of sorts - like a giant cool tube - what size fans are generally used to cool bulbs?

And would you blow the air past them from the bottom of the light tube or would you suck it out at the top?

And finally... :xcited:

do bulbs emit stronger light from the tip or from the sides of the bulb?

As you can see...I have a new setup in the making...

Hey jimbo, I reckon you and Indy are the ideas men here at the moment  good stuff

I been mucking around with hanging my 400's vertically and the extra growth has been welcome.

Next round I'm going to put a fan below the lamp, maybe some sort of screen to keep the buds off the lamp and thats about it. The lamps are heaps easier to cool hanging like that with no reflector.

um.. i dont see the point in this... unless of course youre growing trees...

I woulnt bother.. you should get around 20+ ounces from 1 600.. setting them up like this certainly wont yield anywhere near 60 ounces.. to me it just seems a waist of light.. and energy..

my 600 covers a space 1.2mx1.2m I get around 1.5 pounds from that space.. pushing around 40 watts per foot.. I reckon the 600 will cover 1.4x1.4 with out loosing to much in the density of the buds and yield a little more..

so think about how much your going to yield ... will it be more than a pound per light?? remember a pound from a 600 is way below average

not trying bring down your idea.. as we need people to think outside the box for innovative ideas.. but to grow like this.. i would think your going to need side lighting.. as well as light on the top... as this will only be good for the middle of say.. 4 plants/trees.. youll still need to light the top and other sides..

before saying you wouldnt bother have a look at some of the vert grows on the links below and jimbo have a look as well, if you are doing a grow / room like these then go hard if it is a bigger room then above is the go for sure.

Yeah godonacid, that's my plan...sorta. :peace:

I know it's been done before with less than satisfactory results as far as yield go's but it interests me.

I'm working on a octagon system that will run as a ebb & flow or NFT system - but the NFT style will have to be fed by sprayers which will make the pipe layout a logistical nightmare... :toke:

But I'm up for a challenge and always up for an experiment - I figure if I can't expand sideways I will go upwards.

SS I know that a gram per watt is the benchmark and that sort of yield would do me fine, but I've got the bug and with all the reading I do every night about the pro's and con's of each system I just want to try something different. If it never happens...I'm fine with the setup I have now, but I'm sure with some tweaking that I can do it! :applause:

I'd really like to try single cola plants in a SOG - but with my space...the only way is up!

imo vert growin is grouse

but wen it comes to grams per wats

ime its always added up as wats per gram...:applause:

as in having around 7000w to 1 x 3mtr area

mass watts thats my opinion of vert growing

imo ya need to pinch power, but then again its a no 1/2 measures design i have for a vert grow room...keeping numbers to 4

and pulling 2 lb per plant

only other way i see vert lighting being of value

is for side lighting

all the best and love to hear ya thoughts on ya area
