New High Output lights more efficient Then HPS!

Recommended Posts

"The microwave lamp is a technology where we're thinking about a large-scale system like a greenhouse on Mars, where we can illuminate a large growth area,"

:toke: Doesn't the sun shine on mars?

Twice as efficient as other high-intensity sources, the microwave lamps can generate as much light as the noonday sun.

Now that is one strong mutha of a light! ...if you believe it :freak:

I still think it's a shame that so much time&money can be wasted on space exploration while we continue to fuck this planet :peace: No doubt, if they ever do manage to inhabit mars, they'll make a mess of it too :)

:peace:

the high-tech lighting systems here have been used to grow potatoes, sweet potatoes, lettuce, spinach, radishes, wheat onion and a whole plethora of herbs such as marjoram and parsley.

if the light can grow all those items. it should grow weed ok.. :)

The light in fact is so bright that it can be funneled through pipes and then distributed over large areas

I love the sound of that..1 light a few seperate rooms.. :freak:

That's the kicker, cheap.

The sulfur lamps should be interesting, it's early days for them yet.

And yeah, the sun shines on mars, but it's about 2 times the distance from the earth to the sun. Light reduces by and inverse square law the further you are from the source....

That and any plant'd be cooked by ultraviolet and other high energy radiation. Covered, artificially lit greenhouses, at least until terraforming can get underway seriously, will be about the only way to grow plants on the surface for quite a ways.

Gotta get there first too, that'd be a good idea. :)

I do hold high hopes for LED's, but I'm yet to see a production scale growroom of weed under them.
