Police yesterday reaped the results of a tenacious drug operation when they uncovered three highly sophisticated hydroponics laboratories in three Cairns suburbs. The laboratories were located at East Trinity, Palm Cove and Smithfield and are believed to have been part of an organised syndicate based around large-scale cannabis production. It is alleged the first laboratory, protected by a high-tech surveillance system, was located in a shed at an East Trinity slipway. A 68-year-old man will appear in court today after cannabis with an estimated potential street value of $90,000 was seized at a Redfern townhouse. Police executed a search warrant at a townhouse in Wells Street about 12.45pm yesterday. It will be alleged hydroponically grown cannabis leaf with an estimated potential street value of $90,000 was seized along with a quantity of cash. A 68-year-old man was arrested at the townhouse and taken to Redfern Police Station for questioning. He was subsequently charged with dealing with proceeds of crime and supplying a prohibited drug. Cannabis located at Salisbury (5/2/08) Source: SA Police site Just after 2.30 this morning Elizabeth police located a burnt out Subaru WRX on Brown Road at Waterloo Corner.
