yeah well obviously there is the possibility that the tube can crack, especially if you are putting tubes up that already have cracks in them as chato said. but explosion? pressurised gases? I fail to see how any kind of a pressure build up could occur in a cool tube. even if your fans fail you still have an open path for the air to escape at each end.

A closed in hood with air being pumped from directly above the bulb works fine.

 

If you want bulb closeness to the plant a flat sheet sealing the hood would be cheap and easy.

 

All as long as air is moved past the bulb to remove heat

 

but then the tube is sexy to look at ...

the difference from aircooled hoods to cool tubes is the cool tubes diamater is the size of the ducting with way greater cooling i seen someone on OG using a cool tube he put his hand inside the cool tube running a 1000w and touch the globe

also for those of you who did a little high school physics, a cooltube allows the light to pass through it more efficiently than a flat piece of glass would as the tube surface is perpendicular to the light source increasing the angle of incidence which results in less reflection.

Remember that pyrex will decrease the efficiency of your light - it will block a proportion of UV light and decrease lumens by about 20%.

 

So your 600W becomes a 480W in effect.

all this reducing light talk the cooler the lamp runs the brighter and longer lasting it will be come i'd imagine

 

ozmade, that dude on ebay has the 120mm version for 400-600w $95 aswell also someone mention before in chat hydro aqua pet had one on display instore

I realised that as soon as I posted it - if cooler lights means you get the lights closer, then you are actually getting more lumens anyway.
