General Cultivation Q&A

The guy at my hydro store has a box full of dead electronic PH meters and reckons that he is having a lot of trouble finding a brand that is worth the price he has to sell them for, I was just wondering if anyone out there has one that has lasted them two years or more, how accurate it is and of course what brand. I am also trying to find a cheaper source for them than the hydro industry, if anyone has any suggestions along those lines they would be welcome too as they are commonly sold for a higher price than Truncheons are.

Hi there......... I live in South Oz and would like to know whats the ealiest time i could start my seeds this year ? Im going overseas in late february 2006 and want to have my plants harvested by then......... Its winter now in SA but when would be a safe time to plant again here........i was thinking the end of august since winter will be gone by then ? thanks JAS

In what way would i be best off mixing Vermiculite , Perlite and expanded clay balls ? I was going to go DWC but i was concerned bout overwatering etc. I didn't want to go organic so this was my next best idea / Dicey.

is it possible ? to get stoned ...... of ya head with a hermi plant 3 wks into flower? . cos i grew this plant to 5 foot then it t urned hermie , but i dried it , had a cone and i'm stoned as ? luckily i've got a full blooded fem to take it's place ........... but this is the scrag .......

Hi everyone, I have never grown anything before, but I have been reading a fair bit from this site, but I haven't yet found what I have been looking for. Basically everyone wants to make their plants bigger, but I am wondering if there is a way to keep them smaller? I live right near feral central and don't have huge fences (this would be an outside grow) so I was wondering can the plants be kept small, or is there a certain strain that can be grown in pots etc. thanks...

Hi Guys, With my first grow almost over now I'd almost run out of flower nutes, I went to the Hydro store and decided to switch from DM to Canna. I'll keep running the plants on the DM veg nutes + my normal additives OxyPlus in every watering and DM Guardian every second week. I want to know the following about the Canna products, so those who have used them please let me know your experiences: Should I treat Cannazym like DM Guardian? i.e. - use every second week continuously with watering? The nutes are Canna CoCo part A and B, they have no seperate flower and veg nutes but the guy at the store told me they were designed to run the whole way through, complimen…

Hey all Still in design phase of the new setup. Ive decided on my lights & footprint - 2 X 600w on a lightrail with a crossbar ( so the lights are on each side of the rail ) in a footprint of about 6' X 7' X 7 1/2' Tall. Anyway, Im considering a continous harvest SOG setup atm. My only experience with hydro thus far has been DWC, & Im unsure whether DWC is the best method to use in this situ. Im thinking the new clones going in ( once hardened off )will need to be sitting on something to get them close enough to the light, to avoid any excessive stretching. Hi fellow oz stoners. I was just wondering if it would be possible to start a lowryder grow outside in winter and perhaps have a greenhouse type thing going on to prevent the onset of frost- or perhaps bringing in the plants during the night and then putting them out the next morning after the frost has settled. Would this be possible? Any input in the subject would be greatly appreciated. btw- I live in a climate pretty similar to Perth's-if that helps. cheers.

hi, this is my first post here. i am starting a small grow of just a couple of plants at home, and ive cracked the seeds between 2 sheets of coffee filter paper. when they had opened i put the into styrophome cups filled with soil with holes for drainage. its been about 5 days now and they havent come up through the surface. they r outside the house and its been verry cold here in the last week or so, so i was wondering how much the temperature would affect them? would i be better to put them under fluros or something? thanx for ur help

hi all, got a few problems and this is what i've come up with. i face a bit of dilema in that i have to leave my girls for a couple of weeks at a time for the next little while. i've got 6 plants in flower DWC style which a mate can look after for a few weeks but the problem is my 12 seedlings and 10 clones that i've got going. my buddy finds the top up method of DWC fairly easy (and i love dwc anyway) so I've had to spring into action and rig up a 20 bucket re-circ system with control rezzy for the little un's. I'm already stretching the limit with power so i've decided to veg under fluro's until the other lot is finished and then tranfer them over. for lights i'…
