A major crackdown on those taking magic mushrooms from the Balingup forest in south-west Western Australia has resulted in 12 people being charged during the past two weeks. Police say they have also laid a number of other charges resulting from the discovery of cannabis, amphetamines, ecstasy and LSD. The people charged are from Perth and the south-west. The maximum penalty for possession of magic mushrooms is $2,000, two years jail, or both. Police say the annual blitz on magic mushrooms has been similar to previous years, but they are concerned about the large amount of other drugs seized during this year's crackdown. Santa will arrive in Darwin tomorrow to express his continued support for the community’s campaign against the ‘drug house’ laws. Currently en route from the North Pole, Santa is expected to make an appearance in Darwin’s Raintree Park tomorrow afternoon, at the 23rd Community Smoke-In for Human Rights. The smoke-in, organised by the Darwin-based drug law-reform group, the Network Against Prohibition (NAP), will be the 23rd such event since the NAP was established in March 2002. It is the fourth with a ‘Christmas in July’ theme. Smoke-ins are held as a regular protest against the Northern Territory Government’s ‘drug house’ laws and other abuses of human rights in t…

I read on sky news thismorning that the president of indonesia has been quoted as saying indonesia refuses to give a presidential pardon to any drug smuggler and that schapelle will be carrying out her 20 year sentance :thumbdown the way things are looking, the courts decision to give her 20 years is going to stand, if the indonesians give the prosecutors what they want (life imprisonment) they'll look like they are corrupt and if they set her free, they'll look like they are sympathetic to drug smugglers, so basically they are just going to wait for things to blow over and just let things stay the way they are.... just like any other problem a government has, there…

South-East Asia could become virtually opium-free if trends continue, a report on the world drugs trade predicts. The 2005 World Drug Report, released by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, says production of opium in South-East Asia, which is predominantly used to make heroin, is 78 per cent lower than it was in 1996. Production in the region, particularly in Burma and Laos, is forecast to fall further this year. "If the declines witnessed over the last few years are sustained, it would not be too far outside the realm of possibility that South-East Asia could become virtually free of illicit cultivation over the next few years," the report says. Howeve…

Western Australia police have charged more than 140 people as part of a state-wide operation targeting drug dealers. Officers working for Operation Python have seized amphetamines, ecstasy, cannabis and heroin during raids on more than 100 homes yesterday and today. Assistant Commissioner Tim Atherton says police also found $34,000 in cash, a Taser stun gun and thousands of dollars worth of stolen property. "A lot of that stolen property is going to mid-level dealers who are exchanging that property for drugs and obviously on-selling it, so they are very significant players and are an issue in terms of the problem of drugs," he said. By July 1, 2005 LAKE Illawarra Police raided a house at Primbee yesterday, seizing almost $350,000 worth of cannabis plants. Detectives and drug squad police were among a dozen officers who descended on the Windang Rd property at noon, finding more than 170 cannabis plants growing in a sophisticated hydroponic set-up, in a specially designed room. Last night police estimated the plants, which varied in size, were worth $348,000. Acting Lake Illawarra Area commander, Acting Superintendent Mark Gallagher, said police had the house under surveillance overnight before the search, and it had been unoccupied the whole time. After an agronomist examined the plants, it…

Courier Mail Chris Griffith 20jun05 Club drugs targeted by police dog squads POLICE dogs will soon be sniffing patrons at Queensland's pubs and clubs as part of a new crackdown on users of heroin, cannabis, cocaine, and amphetamines. Police Minister Judy Spence yesterday confirmed she would prepare legislation to widen police powers to allow dogs to sniff patrons at licensed premises in Queensland. The law will allow officers to take dogs into licensed premises without establishing a belief that drugs are on the premises. Dogs would be capable of detecting not only people carrying drugs but also those who had been in recent contact with them because of odours on …

RANDOM drug testing of Tasmanian drivers is likely to start next month as the State becomes only the second in Australia to target motorists high on illicit drugs. Police Minister David Llewellyn yesterday said testing devices had been ordered and the legislation, passed by Parliament in March, would be proclaimed to take effect from July 1. "If the technology has arrived, testing will begin on that date," Mr Llewellyn said. The new regime, which will involve random breath tests of motorists at targeted sites such as nightclubs or dance parties, makes Tasmania only the second state to introduce drug testing of drivers. Victoria introduced a similar system last Dec…

Geocities: The Digital Genesis
In the bustling digital streets of the late '90s, Yahoo Geocities stood out as a haven for burgeoning online communities. It was here, amidst this digital renaissance, that OZ Stoners planted its foundational roots. This marked the dawn of a space that would go on to become synonymous with Australian cannabis culture.
Navigating the Digital Tempests
On its journey, OZ Stoners faced formidable challenges. Between Yahoo's unpredictability and the unexpected anti-cannabis stance of titans like Meta, steering the ship required a blend of adaptability, tenacity, and foresight.
A Hiatus and the Phoenix's Ascent
Come 2022, OZ Stoners entered a period of unplanned dormancy, lasting a challenging 12 months. But, reminiscent of the legendary phoenix, this hiatus was transformed into an opportunity for rebirth. The platform underwent comprehensive upgrades, server enhancements, and a revitalising overhaul. As it emerged, it did so with a phoenix-like rise, soaring higher and brighter, dedicated to serving the community with even more zeal and purpose.
Ode to the Trailblazers
The tapestry of OZ Stoners is woven with the dedication and vision of its founding members. Their relentless drive and contributions have been the bedrock of its success. While many of these pioneers continue to shape its direction, we pause to honor those trailblazers we've lost over time. Their indomitable spirit continues to inspire and resonate within the cannabis community. - Memorial Hall
