If mj were to be fully legalised then it would also be taxed at the same luxury rate as tobacco and alcohol, I for one would refuse to pay such a tax on something I would be growing myself and therefore risk being done for tax evasion, I would much rather be busted for a personal grow under the current system than have the taxation department investigate me. Decriminalisation with an allowance for enough plants with no restrictions on grow methods is the best way to go for me, that way I wouldn't have to worry about gaol or taxes.

:D

Unless you are selling it, I can't see how it is any of the Tax Department's business. Unless cannabis' legal regulatory model is completely out of whack with other goods produced in the home like beer, fruit and vegetables, your homecooked meals etc. then this isn't really worth debating.

Yes, I agree with Niall here - they simply aren't interested as is the case with growing a bit of tobacco. While there have been some arrests for commercial tobacco cultivation the arrests involve very large scale distribution situations. Worth pointing out also that these arrests only involve fines based on unpaid taxes - totally different matter to the mj situation. I've started studying the Australian Constitution and the Single Convention and case law (if any) that could point towards a valid legal argument. Let you know how I go in a few weeks:-)

The last march I went on would have been in 1995 - 96 and there were about 140 people outside parliament. It was embarassing and those of us that showed could easily be photographed and watched. A million people marching globally is a very small number - maybe a million in New York, 100,000 in Sydney, 50,000 in Perth would say something but.....

I've long considered that someone needs to start a drug amnesty international organisation whos model mimics amnesty international. Amnesty doesn't involve themselves in the drug war and for this reason I have never donated - seems to be white hypocrisy to me where they fail to look in their own back yard where the US is the number 1 country for human rights violations and it should be the US that Amnesty targets. Start writing to their government about the prisoners of war they have incarcerated as the country with the highest per capita imprisonment rate in the world (among other things)

The ideas coming out of this thread are great, I will try to compile some sort of list on the ideas here and see what we all want to do. I for one will be compiling a letter to send to pollies from some of the suggestions that I will post before sending for anyone to add to or make changes to, so that I get it right.

lol to all of us, we are soooooo good lol what need to be done to our government ministers :D

Littlbit; if you do complie the letter and send it to"pollies" maybe you could consider asking for the ballance John Howard destroyed be returned in the gov advisor department.

I'm thinking specifically now of when Howard sacked two government advisors in 1999/2000.

It was the year I discovered this web site in fact, probably in response the Howard's BS. Do we all recall in the year I mention John Howard sent a 4 page colour brouchre around to every house in the country telling us all we need to speak openly about drugs to our kiddies, and not be afraid of the subject?

Do you recall all the lies presented as facts in that booklet we all recieved in the mail? Just to helpus parents teach and guide our children away from the dangers of drugs such as grass..

Well that came about by the fact the Aus Fed gov used two"experts" for their advise on drug related issues. Two were proponents of zero tolerance, and two were very strong on the idea of education and free choice. They were strong harm minimalisationists. (if that's how you spell it I'd be surpised :smoke:)

John Howard go this job, and one of the first things he did was to sack the two harmminimalists. They didn't even get the decency of a week's notice. They arrived at work the way I understand it and were escorted out the door-sacked. He then replaced them with two more zero tolerance tools, and that's were so much of all this nonsense has found it's ground.

I remember it very well, those of you who have come to know me shouldn't find it hard to believe I hada huge rant and rave about it,spewing to everyone I knew, but really, what can ya do?

If you write something that might find Rudd's attention, please raise this issue of oinequality ingovernmentadvise..

I used to write letters, but I'm a litttle pesemistict these days, kinda given up.

I appreciate all that anyone does though in this arena much as yourself, roc, anyone, everyone.

thanks

rob

PS.The actual facts surrounding the amount of notice they were given should be checked somehow before it's cited as fact if you go that way, but that they were sacked without grounds except for their personal view on drug harm and education is solid fact. I'm certaina bout the way they were sacked too,I just can't prove it. It's something that lives on strong in my mind from when it happened.

I will look up the information on that, also I intend to site the Government white papers that states that Cannabis should not be illegal, in fact the plant should be made available for all its uses. John Howard ignored every expert advise on this plant, we know he stacked the advisory board more than once as he only wanted people on it that was zero tolerance, he refused to look at the health benefits, so yep this needs to be brought up in any letter.

Thanks for reminding me.

Hey all, who would be interested in writing letters if a 'Drug Amnesty International' in the same vein as 'Amnesty International' Existed.

I keep seeing great ideas pop up on threads on this site and it is clear people here want to do something. The only problem I see in some cases is that people seem to want to rehash the past (protest marches, sit ins, stunts) - all of which is great but all of which has failed time and time again. It is a fool who assumes that what has failed once will succeed if they try it again (not my words but a quote) I hate to say it but I've been there and done that - in the seventies we marched and what came of it..? Nothing!! The times have changed and it is necessary to change with them; its that simple.
