After checking all the forums and posts on these "small black flies" i am still a little confused about Scarid Fly. I thought the tiny black dudes flying about my plants were Thrips or something other than Scarid Fly as they did not look like the picture of the Fungus Gnat. So i used sticky strips to control their numbers which worked well as the plants looked very healthy. Once i pulled the pot sock out, there were very tiny maggots living in the bottom of the pot. The roots looked healthy and white...Does anybody have any more info and pics about these critters? thanks

White leaves

Went over to a mates 2 weeks ago and saw that some of his plants had white leaves...went back today and saw that shitloads of em had white leaves... I did some research on it and theres two main theories as to why this has happened...the lights are too close and the light is bleaching the chlorophyl out of the leaves... The second is its a micronutrient lockout and the plants need to be flushed big time to to allow them to recover.... The problem seems to be with the leaves at the top 6 inches of the buds... They are white...NOT YELLOW this is from rosenthal...seems to be whats going on Magnesium (Mg) Mg is the central atom in chlorophyll and is also used i…

Well, leave your plants alone for a few days at the end and budrot can be your reward. I've had to chop down two main colas to make sure the rest don't get anything. It's these damn cold nights, even 24/7 venting can't help in some cases. I think because one of the colas had been shaded after developing nicely, (it ended up pushed under another one when moving the bubbler plant) it gave the mould a chance. The other bud which was infected had the rot in the mid section of the cola, where bud density was high and yet due to further development above it became shaded too heavily too. A little bit of moisture trapped between the buds is all it takes... This particul…

After a few cycles of having pesky spidermites cause havoc in my growroom and damage my plants, i decided to do a little research. I had read a lot about companion planting so i decided to give it a try. I planted two bulbs of garlic in each pot(50l) with my babies and kept a close eye on them. After a few days i spotted a few mites(i had found a few outside in the herb garden)and decided not to spray with anything but to leave it and see if the garlic worked. A week or so later there were no littlle rascals to be seen. That was about 7 weeks ago and my babies are a few weeks away from harvest and i still have not seen one mite since..... bloody marvelous!! Garlic takes u…

Weird seed like liquid filled things....

Popped over to a mates place and was in the middle of trimming when I noticed these weird things on some branches and on a few of the leaves. They kind of looked like half a seed shell attached to the stems mostly and the odd leaf....when you press them a yellow liquid comes out.....they are not part of the plant from what I can tell as no mark is left when it is removed off a branch or leaf...so they dont seem to be eating the chlorophil..... There seem tobe 2 different types...the smaller browner ones and the larger darker brown ones The look pretty gross....and no they dont move.... Its creeping me out

Hey guys, Ok, quick question. I got 7 plants growing GREAT there about 7 inches now, my biggest plant started to yellow at the leaves and then leaves started curling for no obvious reason, then after 3 days all new growth is limp, The plant stem is great and great roots, It was the biggest plant so i thought i was getting burnt from the light, but its not that. I thought maybe its overfed, but all the other plants are doing great, I have been feeding the plant straight water and that has stopped the yellowing but the plant is still sickly limpy looking. I think it may have a disease, So i seperated it from my good plants. What do you think it is, I wont have a di…

Mealy bugs!@

Just about anyone who has raised a houseplant or two has come across the mealy bug. These pests, if left to their own devices, will eventually create a mealy mess of monstrous proportions. This not only causes the plant to look unsightly, but also severely weakens and even kills plants. Often a limited outbreak of mealy bug can be cleaned off a small houseplant with use of alcohol or meths, but if an infestation has taken up residence in your hydroponic system then immediate action is called for. Identification of mealy bugs To the uninitiated who have not battled the mealy monster before, the first signs of an infestation can sometimes be mistaken for a fungal di…

Ive just learnt about controlling red spider mite on cucumbers and tomatos by using a 50/50mix of lemon juice and water. I was wondering if the acid content of the lemon juice would harm or kill the plants and would it work on the ladies. Would be a nice cheap and less harmful way if it works...what do you guys think??
