Small flys...hmmmm

After checking all the forums and posts on these "small black flies" i am still a little confused about Scarid Fly.

I thought the tiny black dudes flying about my plants were Thrips or something other than Scarid Fly as they did not look like the picture of the Fungus Gnat. So i used sticky strips to control their numbers which worked well as the plants looked very healthy. Once i pulled the pot sock out, there were very tiny maggots living in the bottom of the pot. The roots looked healthy and white...Does anybody have any more info and pics about these critters?

Thats exactly what I had and the cure [adding perlite to peat and adding an exhaust fan to get rid of moisture problems] worked for me.

Thanks Taz, i am relieved that there is no need for chemicals as that is what i have been told "use scarid fly drench". One thing that worried me is that it is so toxic that you have to use gloves, so what about the poor plants?
