My outdoors winter plants are all flowering, I pulled all the males up and stuck a few in a pot so I can gather some pollen way away from the girls but other than that not much else to report other than they are surviving some pretty cold nights surprisingly well

Looking good, how old are they again?

 

Have you worked out how you are actually going to collect the pollen? Try and collect it while it is still on the plant or remove a stem with seeds?

Hi there thirsty,there's probably easier ways but I've just been waiting for the flowers to be almost open then hold a brown paper bag underneath and just give it a gentle tap to release the pollen then I care fully pluck off the flower and pop that in the bag as well,my first couple of go,s were pretty hopeless I had pollen everywhere except in the bag so I bit of more practice is needed, there's a fair chance I'm going to end up with seed in my females to because I was a bit slack in separating early on in the piece when I first spotted males but in OK with that,mostly I just did it to see If could grow outside in winter and now I know I can and I'll have pollen ready for use come summer so all n all I'm pleased with my winter grow

Pretty sure I planted that winter patch around the 1st of may just before the mardigrass but next winter I'll try and plant those out about a month earlier I reckon

Ok cool, interested because i saw someone else who planted at the every end of May and is in a slightly warmer climate than you. There's look very similar but slightly smaller, the month difference in planting probably explains that though.

 

Yeah was wondering about males, whether to cut or try and time it properly to collect while still on the plant. Both seems like a good idea

Well I'm done trimming for the night,its all going into making is so just a rough trim for this stuff dunna why but trimming makes my back ache so bad anyways I'm slowly getting through it,couple of pics
