FIWH's adventures with lacto bacillus and fermented ferts

Recommended Posts

Been a while since i updated this.

Everything is working great. Bokashi bin is nearly full. Mainly been putting fruit and veg in there with trim from my ganja plants so hoping the bokashi i get will be a great flowering fert.

Really interesting the way this stuff works. Just sort of sucks the colour right out of every thing in the bin. No nasty smells. Its really cool.

On another note my no till garden bed i made is ready to go. Planted some seeds into it yesterday so i can see how it goes. Bring on the organics

Hey mate

Nice to hear all's well , how did you find the juice at the bottom of the bokashi bin , have heard it can get pretty rank smelling , mostly from people not emptying the leachate catcher regularly enough

& if used on the garden can stink ya backyard up a bit , but dose work quite well & you can also ferment the juice for a while to remove the smell with lacto

great seed / seedling / clone starter

20ml of aloe vera juice ( Health food shop ) with 20ml of coconut water ( Coles , Safeway )

to 4lts of water , the original recipe is a 1/4 cup of each to 4 lts of water but i used at a rough 1/3 strength = 20ml , just being cautious i guess

Keeping the no till bed mulched or growing a cover crop ?

That's cool mate you know more than i , i've never done bokashi composting , i didn't know you put water with it

i thought the leachate was just what was leaching from the fruit & veg to the bottom of the bucket

Your method , the bokashi bran prob sucks it all up

I found a little tip recently , instead of molasses use rapadura / panela which is the least refined cane sugar

& keeps allot more of the goodness than molasses & is what molasses is separated from

Ps rapadura is not a liquid

If ya have a look round it's not too bad price wise , I got mine from here http://thesourcebulkfoods.com.au/ ( i have a shop near by )

but can't find rapadura in there online store for a price as they sell per kilo , not that you have to buy by the kilo , they buy in bulk & you buy small amounts cheaper supposedly

You prob keep using molasses for making lacto but rapadura can help with terpenes like molasses can & is a great fungi food source

used towards the end of a grow for terpenes & to build a strong fungal colony for the lignin breakdown ( old roots ) if your

re-using your soil & keeping it alive , so i think a small amount of rapadura will go a long way

If you were to make/ferment your own fish hydrolysate rapadura would be best
