FIWH's adventures with lacto bacillus and fermented ferts

Recommended Posts

do you mulch up your material before composting and what do you mainly use for brown material. green material i ca get in spades but the brown material im thinking will be harder to come by in my yard. maybe just straw?

as well as Franks input this might be of some help from the soil food web as well http://www.soilfoodweb.com/Thermal_Compost.html

Our mix fiwh is mainly hay rice hulls food scraps weeds cow poo chicken poo urea sand left over burnt material from fires anything that composts and some coarser plants like dock weed need a little chop up and they still don't breakdown even after 12 months..

That second pic looks cool mate

what's that growing , leaks , spring onions hard to tell & prob neither

For brown material from the backyard, I use old straw mulch from garden beds, and mainly old tree branches and old leaves!!

I don't bother mulching my material, but I would if I had a mulcher, just make things go by a bit quicker but I've had no problems used lots of finger thick branches from the fruit trees etc.

Also i've personally found building a sorta lasagne with the brown/green materials to get it going the quickest, also seems to get hotter that way, probably more air
