A few questions from a noob

Hi all! I've been browsing marijuana grow forums for about a year now but i still have a few unanswered questions i believe i should clarify before i start my first indoor grow.

 

1. I'll be using a drip system so which type of medium is better out of clay balls or perlite? I'd prefer to keep it simple so if i have to choose only one of the two which one would be preferable?

 

2. I'm still a bit confused about nutrients. There's so much out there and i don't want to get stuck buying a gimmick or something that isn't really helping. I'd prefer to keep the operation as low-cost as possible... especially for my first indoor grow, so which nutrients are essential to have? I'm not concerned with organic products so the more hardcore the better!

I understand you need a grow a&b and a flower a&b but i hear a lot of things about p&k/superthrive and other additives; which ones do i need remembering i'm on a budget?

 

3. Finally, I'm looking to buy a basic hydro kit. I've been keeping my eye on ebay but i haven't had much luck so i've been considering buying everything new. People in the US say buy from a hardware store but i'm not sure you can buy the necessary equipment from generic stores in Australia (i'm from Melbourne). So where is the cheapest place to buy from? Should i shop around the different hydro shops to find the cheapest one or is buying from hardware/gardening stores viable as well?

suggestions ..

 

1. perlite

2. basic A&B Growth nutes ... basic A&B bloom nutes , anything else are optional supplementary additives

3. im a little unsure what ya mean by 'basic hydro setup' perhaps you could elaborate on the situation where you will be growing and what you expect from it ... or just shop around bunnings and hydro shops (who often inflate prices)

Shopping around hydro stores is a good start, the prices change dramatically at times, so a few phone calls never go astray.

The cheapest and easiest to construct as far as hydro goes would have to be DWC

Thanks for all the helpful replies. I'll be growing in a wardrobe and intending on using a 400w. I have the hydro pot + tubing i just need to get the pump and all the lighting bits and pieces. Have my bagseed sitting on the window sill right now... hopefully they germ soon . I'll probably get a progressive grow journal going so i can ask questions and show you guys how it's all going.

 

By the way... what's dwc? I feel like i should know what that means.

DWC is basically growing in a basket in a pot of water.
