Cannabis: the final word 5 Dec 2005 A risk to mental health, or a boon for people with MS? Both, says Barbara Lantin Why can't people make up their minds about cannabis? A recent issue of a tabloid newspaper carried news of an Australian study that showed that four out of five people with severe schizophrenia had been regular marijuana smokers in their youth. A few pages later, it included an article extolling the virtues of a cannabis-derived medicine for multiple sclerosis (MS) patients. Cannabis: 'what is needed now is education' The Home Office insists that cannabis "is still a controlled drug, and possession, production and supply are still illegal", but last…

CRIMINAL sanctions for growing and possessing cannabis should be tightened, according to the Howard Government, which is increasingly concerned by the havoc drugs are wreaking on Australia's young minds. One drug expert warned yesterday that the rising number of people using illicit substances was a mental health "time bomb". The warning came just days after a report exposed how psychologically ill patients were dying because of poorly co-ordinated care. Parliamentary secretary for health Christopher Pyne, who has oversight on drugs, also blasted relaxed state cannabis laws, saying the states "all need to toughen up their laws dramatically", especially in regard to …

From telegraph.co.uk I must say I have to agree with 4 ounces being a pretty high amont to delineate between personal supply and intent to supply ... I've smoked for over 30 yrs and its rare I've ever had more than an ounce or 2 ...tops ... way too much money to tie up in weed .... so I think that Sir Ian is right ... I may fail the test at the moment .. but not for long devilred.gif

NEW YORK — John Lennon fans around the world on Thursday marked — with music, flowers and tearful tributes — the bitter moment 25 years ago when the rock hero was gunned down by a deranged fan. Lennon followers laid wreaths outside the New York apartment block where the musician was shot dead on Dec 8, 1980. In the English city of Liverpool, where Lennon was born 65 years ago, more than 1,000 messages to the ex-Beatle, including emails from across the globe, were released on white balloons from the city's Albert Dock. read full article here

Sorry, saw this in todays paper, and thought it may be of interest to someone. hmmm Onya, you cant find a link between the guys (R.I.P. by the way) mental state and his drug use, so you'll just go ahead and say it was the cause anyways. :thumbdown Notice how they say how he (the deceased) was a regular drug user, but they only mention cannabis. I bet that was the most harmless out of the lot, whatever he was taking. EDIT:LINK

http://www.cannabisnews.com/news/thread21350.shtml Amsterdam -- A coalition of Dutch political parties unveiled a plan on Friday for a pilot programme for regulated marijuana farming, and threatened a showdown in parliament if the government tries to block it. Justice Minister Piet Hein Donner opposes authorised cannabis cultivation because it would set the Netherlands another step apart from the rest of Europe. “The minister’s opinion is that this plan is in conflict with Dutch and international law,” said spokesman Wibbe Alkema. Under current Dutch policy, marijuana and hashish are theoretically illegal but police don’t fine smokers for possession of less than 5…

Hindustan Times - Editorial Grass is greener in Britain December 3, 2005 Anyone for restoring some cultural pride and independence? If you thought it’s silly for Indians to blindly pick up the term ‘Middle East’ and use it to describe a region that clearly lies to our West, listen to this. Britain has just rejigged its drug laws and now people in the country can possess cannabis without being picked up by the police. The new law simply maintains that selling the cannabis sativa plant in its various forms is still a crime. If one disregards the slightly Kafkaesque situation posed there for marijuana-users who don’t grow their own herb — “Where do you get the cannab…
