The case stems from the 2002 arrest of 27-year-old Pendleton resident Cameron Beers. He was arrested for driving under the influence and possession of less than one ounce of marijuana. In his defense, Beers' lawyers argued that he should never have been convicted because he only had marijuana seeds on him. State law only prohibits possession of leaves, stems and flowers. In a review article published today in Harm Reduction Journal, Dr. Melamede from the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, USA, writes that although cannabis smoke and tobacco smoke are chemically very similar, evidence suggests that their effects are very different and that cannabis smoke is less carcinogenic than tobacco smoke. The pharmacological effects of tobacco and cannabis smoke differ in many ways, mainly because tobacco smoke contains nicotine while cannabis smoke contains tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Bust nets drug haul Friday, 30 December 2005 A man yesterday was arrested after a lightning raid at a house in West Dubbo uncovered a suspected large amount of cannabis. A convoy of unmarked police cars sped up Leavers Street about 12.30pm yesterday and split up to storm the house from front and back. A 22-year-old male was detained by Dubbo detectives and officers from the Dubbo Intelligence Response Team (DIRT) after he dashed out the back door and attempted to scale the back fence. Driving under the influence of cannabis almost doubles the risk of a fatal road crash, finds a study published online by the British Medical Journal. However its share in fatal crashes is significantly lower than those involving alcohol. The study took place in France and involved 10,748 drivers who were involved in fatal crashes from October 2001 to September 2003. All drivers underwent compulsory tests for drugs and alcohol. A total of 681 drivers tested positive for cannabis (7%) and 2096 for alcohol (21.4%), including 285 for both (2.9%). The measure is envisaged in the new Federal Task Program of Countering Illegal Drug Turnover covering the period from 2005 to 2008. The first experimental observation sectors will appear in 2006. They will cover the Far East, Siberia, and southern Russian districts as well as the border with Kazakhstan. In particular, special software for determining drug-containing plants will be developed.

What do you guys/gals think of his message. It seems too me that he could have made a comfortable life for himself through the seed industry if he had kept a lower profile i.e he didn't run for all those political posts. I understand that his aim was to legalise the mj industry through his posts but as we know the mainstream public wouldn't like the idea of some 'pot head' in any office or position. I see it as once his profile and influence got larger the LEO's had no option but to shut him down.
