I have a 400W Son-T in a 390x870 cabinet. That works out to over 100W/square foot, and I am using this for veg as well as flowering (if I can keep my plants alive) As long as you keep temps under control can having this much light be counter productive?

Hi folks. I haven't done any growing for about 3 years, and am starting to get a little eager again. Whilst searching various sites and looking at the grossly overpriced 'kits' these people are selling, I came across a kit using "Agro flouro gro lamps". The 6 lights are claimed to put out 36000 lux, compared to 56000 lux from a 400w. Have grown clones under flouro's but has anyone grown anything full cycle with these lights??? Thanks.

Anyone know if heat shields are any good? Do they help increase yield at all or are they just a gimmick?

I had 2no 20W compact fluoros in each of my cupboards and decided to add an extra one, but I bought a different type, it was a 18W General Electric brand. The 20W ones say they are "natural White" and give off a very white light. However the ones I just bought give off a much more yellow/orange coloured light, and the packet doesn't give any clues about what type of light it is. anyone know whether there is much difference or which type is better?

a usefil bit of information I stumbled across, irrespective of useable spectrum it highlights why HPS is best for flowering, MH or fluoro for veg and everything else is relatively useless... Here's a crude but useful table of lumens per watt for various light types: Avg Type LPW High Low HPS & Agro 123 150 106 Metal Halide 96 125 86 Fluorescent 80 100 20 Mercury Vapor 56 60 41 Incandescent 13 18 10 ------------------------------------------- HPS = high-pressure sodium Agro = Son Agro brand

hey im a first grower, My grow box has five plants in a cubord lined with silver alfoil, lighting is two fluros and since they have been seeds i have had the lights on 24/7. That was about a month ago and at the moment the plants are growing fine nice and green and very healthy. A few people have been telling me that i should have 12/12 lighting for various reasons. Am i doing the wrong thing (they look fine @ the moment tho =/) Advice and info for a n00b would be great. Cheers

Due to the lack of space in my growing area i was forced to have my (2 x 9watt) fluros about 8 cm above the soil. this caused my seedlings to grow quite tall very quickly and now they have weak as stems. despite the weakness of my lights they are growing okay now (i think).. one has 2 4cm leaves 2 2cm leaves 4 1 cm leaves and another 2 0.5 cm leaves. (this seems a decent amount of growth for <2weeks). However when i spray water on them they lean over. i been blowing on them pretty hard to simulate wind but is there any better way to strengthen the stems?? Pete

G'day all, I am just in the process of setting up a small scrog box with a 70W Hps. The bulb has a integral starter. On the LHS of the ballast it is marked B and the RHS it is marked L. The schematic diagram on the ballast shows it to be wired with a external starter but the bulb has a integral as I explained before. I was hoping somebody could help with the wiring of the beast. I do understand there is an active, neutral and earth wire but in which order. Any help much appreciated.
