How far away

Hey all

 

just got going with my first grow i have my temp at around 30 is that ok and with my seedlings how far should far away from the light should i have them i am useing a 400w hsp the seedlings are 4 days old any help would be great

To set the light to grow height, start at 45cm/18" above the plants, hold your hand palm down level with the top of the plant for a few minutes. If it feels too hot on the back of your hand the light is too close, if cool then it's too far away. If it's pleasantly warm and it feels as if you could hold your hand there all day then it's OK.

Hi Ozmade,

 

Ref temp, I hear about 26 deg C is optimum but hey it's 43 degrees outside today & my grow room is in a tin shed & is bloody hot, nearly 50 so 30 is ok - my room often gets above high 30's even 40's + in summer! Just seems to slo em down.

Ref lights - dunno too much about growin from seed - nearly always had clones & when I transfer from clone box to room I have lights up as high as can go & bring em down a bit (about 2 inches) each day till about 1 & a half to 2 ft away (using 600 wt hps). I fruit with 880 wt hps & I reckon Toms advice is good ref back of hand.

Correction to my above post, keep the light about 3 - 4 feet above the seedlings and when they have a few nodes drop the light to grow height.
