General Cultivation Q&A

At the moment i think i'm using a NFT system (i'll explain the system quickly so you know what it is) there's a 50 letre res. pump in res going upto 4" pvc which is in a U shape. 8 pots in total, Air stone under each pot. what is this called? and are there any other easier setups to go for? i've noticed at hydro shops they have similiar setups but instead of a round grow bed (the 4"pvc pipe) they are using a flat type gutter for the grow bed and water just trickels along the bottom. no need for air cuz there is no water depth so there's plenty or air on the roots. Or, do i just get buckets, fill em up with dirt and wack em under lights and just hand water em whenever? …

What do you guys think is the best strain for indoors? Well what have you grown that you realy liked more than others?...Peace

I was over at overgrow reading about this home made smoke filter. The filter consists of a 600ml plastic drink bottle with the bottom removed. The bottle is stuffed with dryer sheets or bounce sheets which you can purchase from the supermarket in America. The bottle is then put inside a sock. The smoke is then exhaled into the narrow end of the bottle and filtered through the dryer sheets and comes out through the sock clean. My question is what the hell are dryer sheets. Does anyone have any idea what the Australian equivalent is or what could be used instead. Has anyone tried making one of these?

I'm curious if anyone knows what is the genetic probability of getting male plants is all things being equal. I mean one male plant could pollinate numerous female plants, so there would be no reason in nature that there would need to be a 50/50 balance. I have 6 plants in 2 cupboards. One plant is noticeably taller & skinnier with less branching and longer node spacing. So I am guessing (and hoping) this is the only male.

Im sure this girl has a few weeks lef yet. I dont know how to have more than one attachment. How to do? Also does any soth Brisbanites Have high yield High quality Girls or can u get girl seeds. I dont know how and its realy Scaarry if u know what i mean. I only have a couple of weeks left to get things going. Thanks any advice appreciated.

High Guys and thanks in advance for any advice.I've made 3 attempts at growing my own MJ and each time while in the flowering stage with buds forming the plants just withered and went very dry and dead looking,last plant was in flower cycle for 54 days, it deteriorated as before and i had to pull it.I'm using 6ft.tall double wardrobe 600 watt hps light 11.5 hrs on.fert is 3 part perfection for veg. and flowering as recomended by hydro store 5mls to 1lt water,tank is topped up with plain water for 3 days then replaced with fresh water and fert. pump on 15 mins off 15mins.Has anyone got any ideas as to where i'm going wrong, i've got more seeds ready to sprout soon.I would …

Been having trouble with my plants, not growing that well and getting unhealthy/browning leaves. Anyway, chatting to sols about a week ago and he suggested osmocote because slow releasing ferts are good in soil mixes. He also suggested adding a product called Trace Elements, which apparently has every essential element required for healthy plant growth. In the supermarket the other day I spotted some osmocote and it said it included Trace Elements. So I added a couple of handfulls to each pot and mixed it into the top inch or so of soil and gave them all a good watering. This was a couple of days ago and I can already see a big improvement. hey ive just heard about a chemical spray that can be applied to young plants, so the majority are females. Has anyone heard of this before and if so are there any safety hazards...thanks

I've heard that if you put your plants in a fridge and turn it right down low the plants will think it is winter and start budding. Is this true and what would be the best light brghtness or wattage. or could you just put them in the fridge overnight and bring them out in the sun during the day.

Just wondering which ferts people are using for outdoor. I've got some Yates Thrive, All Purpose Soluble with a NPK of 27-5.5-9 (I've heard a ratio of at least 2-1-1 is best for veg). I thought I'd get in early before flower time to see what people are using for flowering. I've heard 1-2-2 is the best ratio for flowering, but the only thing close to that at Bunnings so a slow release non-soluble fert which is applied every 6 weeks. I don't really think that would suffice? Your thoughts peoples??

Sup guys if u guys have noticed, ive just currently pulled all my plants and i was wondering wots the perfect way to dry them out without losing any THC..? ive currently cut them all off and put them in rolls of newspaper an stored away on a shelf i the dark.. they seem to b drying fine but i also want to know if ii can speed up the process..? any1 got any drying tips... ive baged sum weed up too soon and ive noticed sum white mold build up how do i get rid of it..? its on slight so it can b saved..? pls any advice would b wicked.. I have some seeds that have been soaking for a few days in water and the tap roots are now sticking out of the seeds. the prob is i have no rockwool or jiffy seed starters to put them in to get them ready for my hydro setup..... what else can i use? Can i put them in perlite ? can i put them out side in pots and then pull them out when they grow a bit and plant em into the hydro setup? plz help
