This baby was thriving 2 weeks ago!

Your plant is under fed , it's not too much water it is also root bound , get it some decent soil, just get a tomato n herb mix for now will last 2/3 mths if it says 4 mths

It's meant to be in the sun get it into condition so it can

Same for the small one, if u let your pot dry out on hot day not good for the plant , keep it moist not wet not dry ,moist , get a $10 meter from Bunnings to test moisture

If your problem isn't over watering n u treat it for over watering your just gonna kill it quicker

Feel like I’m always saying this, but thanks for the help everyone. It really is a welcoming and generous community to be a part of!

Update for anyone who’s helped or cares... I transplanted both kids into bigger pots. I made up a combined mixture of tomato herb soil + mushroom compost + perlite and watered in with seasol. The bigger one (mine) is loving life. I get so much joy seeing those leaves ‘reach’ for the sun. It’s almost like she’s smiling :)

The smaller one (housemate’s) also seems to be happier, although the root system was minimal and in poor condition. Would it be worthwhile to seek a specialist root stimulating product from a hydro shop, or will my seasol do the trick?

Side note: a couple of years ago I came here for help growing my first plant. I was bemused by the way the plant had topped/tipped (?) itself and was growing out in two directions. Well this is the second time I’ve grown a plant and I’m amazed the exact thing has happened again! Would this be a genetic thing and I’ve managed to come across two seeds from the same family, or is it just pure blind luck?? Either way it’s pretty cool.

Wow , what a improvement, the smaller one just might be taking longer to establish a good root base , seasol should be fine

Cheers mic. Should I be sticking to the once p/fortnight recommendation on the Seasol bottle or would the little one benefit from a higher dose to repair the damage?

Also, I bought a container of Power Feed granules for my chilli plants. Would the girls benefit from this or would it be overkill when combined with the mushroom compost + slow release ferts?

Hi billymcd,to answer your question about seasol its best to never exceed the maxium dose and always stick to the recommend application times,i dont use seasol on my cannas but i do use on my flowers and other plants around the yard, if you use to much to often it will cause you more problems to deal with on top of what your already trying to stay on top of,ive got a mate in nsw that has been using seasol since the start of spring and he didnt put his glasses on so was giving them way to much seasol every 4 to 5days and as of a fortnight ago he has officially killed his plants all 20 of them, when i use it on vegies i think from memory i mix it into a 9litre watering can at 25 to 30 mils of seasol and mix well and apply as soon as its mixed ,sometimes less is more and people often assume that if you use more your plants will be bigger and better but this is not the case, hope it helps billymcd,,,GQ

kelp ( seaweed ) & aloe both have all the rooting hormones you find in rooting gels on the shelf at stores

along with a host of other benefits in the 2

topping could be a few things but at the mo , who cares , woo hoo

you can lst to open up the center of the plant at some point if keen

no slow release granules

I’m interested in your comment about opening up ‘the centre of the plant’. Does that mean training the plant to grow flatter and expose the central V point to more sunlight?
