Thursday, 13 December 2007 http://www.stuff.co.nz/4322795a12.html Police in six countries have arrested 40 people, including 14 in Australia, during co-ordinated raids which authorities say have smashed an important international drug ring. Australian Federal Police said today international law enforcement officers had seized 600kg of cocaine, 111kg of ice, 83kg of ecstasy and 1200kg of materials used to produce ice and ecstasy. Seventeen people have been arrested in two five-month drug operations targeting south-west Queensland. Police said the parallel operations were brought to a close with raids on properties in Roma, Surat, Charleville and other nearby locations. More than $27,500 in cash, a motor vehicle, a ride-on mower and expensive entertainment systems were seized, which are thought to be the proceeds of crime. Drug paraphernalia was also found. The raids come after the seizure of about 30 grams of methylamphetamine and 420 grams of cannabis, found by police in earlier raids as part of both operations. The drugs have an estimated value of approximately $18,000. State Drug In…

In his opening address, Crown prosecutor Darrell Blais told the seven-woman, five-man jury the case involves “one of the largest and potentially most profitable cannabis marijuana productions in Saskatchewan history.” Lawrence Hubert Agecoutay, 52, Chester Fernand Girard, 59, Nelson Edward Northwood, 58, Jack Allan Northwood, 55, Joseph Cla…

January 24, 2008 09:28am HEAVY pot smokers will suffer serious lung disease two decades earlier than their cigarette-smoking counterparts, and the style of dope smoking is to blame. The deep, slow inhalation and long breath hold is predisposing cannabis smokers to a condition of rapid lung destruction much younger in life, a study by Melbourne researchers has found. A team from the Department of Allergy, Immunology and Respiratory Medicine at Monash University reviewed the lung condition of middle-aged chronic cannabis smokers. They found high rates of bullous lung disease, a debilitating condition where air trapped in the lungs causes obstruction to breathing a…

Just received a call from Stephanie Wells at CTV's "The Verdict" and she would like me to be a Guest on the show next Thursday with Professor Alan Young, January 24th, 2008 at 9pm. Stephanie contacted me back in December, if some of you remember and the show was cancelled on our way to the studio - the nite of the Show. Stephanie has again offered to send a car for me an hour before I have to be there as the Studio is on the other side of Toronto from where I live. She also offered to let me stay for the entire show to see Alan and anyone else who may be a guest as well... Stephanie was a sweetheart. Not sure exactly what we will be speaking of, other than it will c…

UK: Cannabis Kit Sellers Jailed Despite Pleas Sarah North Derby Evening Telegraph Friday 11 Jan 2008 Two men who insisted they believed their business selling cannabis-growing equipment was legal have been jailed. They said they had thought that the business was legitimate, especially as it had been checked by police and trading standards officers. The pair even advertised the business - Hydroponics Wholesale - in the belief they were not committing any offence. But when un…

JOHN’S, Nfld — Supporters of marijuana may finally have an excuse to smoke weed every day. A recent study in the Journal of Clinical Investigation suggests that smoking pot can make the brain grow. Though most drugs inhibit the growth of new brain cells, injections of a synthetic cannibinoid have had the opposite effect in mice in a study performed at the University of Saskatchewan. Research on how drugs affect the brain has been critical to addiction treatment…
