Patch To Deliver Marijuana Chemicals
Patch To Deliver Marijuana Chemicals Everyone's heard of medicated patches for quitting smoking or replacing hormones. But a University of Kentucky pharmacy researcher is working to create a first-of-its- kind prescription patch to deliver marijuana -like chemicals to ease nausea and stimulate appetite in people with AIDS and cancer. Three years ago, Audra Stinchcomb's patch idea earned the first funding -- $361,000 -- awarded to marijuana -related research by the American Cancer Society. "This is pioneering work," said David Ringer, scientific program director for the American Cancer Society. "It's a very novel use of cannabinoids." The patch would be a breakt…

Marijuana Does Not Accelerate HIV Infections
Marijuana Does Not Accelerate HIV Infections NEW YORK ( Reuters Health ) - Short-term cannabis use does not seem to adversely affect CD4+ cell counts or viral loads in HIV infected patients, according to a report published in the August 19th issue of the Annals of Internal Medicine. In HIV-infected patients, marijuana has been used as an appetite stimulant and as a treatment for the nausea associated with some antiretroviral agents. However, concern has been raised that such therapy could have a harmful effect on disease status, because in theory, cannabinoid use could increase HIV levels by impairing the immune response or by interfering with the activity of proteas…

"High-less" strain???
I know this may be a silly question, but I am curious what happens if a old or middle aged person, who probably never smoked or digested pot in their whole lifes, and their "medicial condition" is getting worse, and they tired using cannabis as last resort for their "condition" and they tried, and found it very benefitical in their case, but what happens if they didn't enjoyed the cannabis "highs", but enjoyed the medicial efffects of cannabis?? I know this may be "off tracked question". I guess they could always cut down the doses, because I read some of my Amercian Cannabis cookbooks and they mentioned (a very small sentence) that the "THC's" can be beneifitical in smal…

Study: Many HIV Patients Use Pot for Mental Healt
San Mateo -- Results coming out of the medical marijuana research project at the San Mateo Medical Center are making waves in the scientific community. The first clinical trials, which ended in February, are still being analyzed. But psychologists were treated to some surprising data from an initial Medical Center survey of HIV patients at the American Psychiatric Association conference in May.
