Before I ask this question, I'll first say that I spent a good 20 minutes browsing the board to find out for myself, and had no luck I'm a little confused here - being the ametuer botanist I am - when reading about nutrients I see all these terms thrown about ... such as EC, CF, PPM, do they all refer to the same thing? I have a vague idea from somewhere that PPM refers to parts per million .. I think. Looking up nutrient level readers I've noticed they're not exactly cheap either, well into the $100+ mark for most electronic readers. Are these things really necessary and is there a cheaper 'solution'? Hehe oops my bad pun there Thanks

Hi there all. Hope you all enjoy the long weekend! Well, it's decided. The next grow will be a combination sog/scrog, six plants in two 70mm high, 100mm wide and 700mm long growool slabs, sitting on top of a base layer of expanded clay in NFT channels, modified slightly for the purpose. Now, I've had good results with growool as a media, I just used normal nutrients and didn't come across any problems which weren't attributable to myself. But I recently saw, (I can't remember where tho) that using growool slabs can require a substantially different nutrient mix? Has anyone else heard of this? And if so, what brands are touted as being "growool specific"? I'm fai…

I dunno where to put this so mods if it isnt in the right spot please move it :-D Hello all last night i filled up my 10litre jug with rainwater and tested the PH it came to 6.3 which is perfect for me. So i thought great i am going to start using rain water. Well i woke up this morening and for some reason i decided to test the water again and it came to 7.8 OMFG. I though WOW! whats going on so i grabbed some ph7 calibration buffer and my meter is reading perfect. All i wanna know is has anyone ever had water fluctuate that much overnight? is this normall? is it possible that the plastic container is leeching acidity into my water? any help would be very gratefu…
