Hi there all. Hope you all enjoy the long weekend! lol Well, it's decided. The next grow will be a combination sog/scrog, six plants in two 70mm high, 100mm wide and 700mm long growool slabs, sitting on top of a base layer of expanded clay in NFT channels, modified slightly for the purpose.

Now, I've had good results with growool as a media, I just used normal nutrients and didn't come across any problems which weren't attributable to myself. But I recently saw, (I can't remember where tho) that using growool slabs can require a substantially different nutrient mix? Has anyone else heard of this? And if so, what brands are touted as being "growool specific"? I'm fairly sure the plants will do okay on my current mix, but I'd like to give them the best I can get, if possible.

Oh, and one more thing, when I was cutting up the slab, in certain areas there were small knots of a black crystalline type substance, it kind of looks like bauxite, if anyone else has seen it. There were only a couple, but they sort of confused me. It was a Grodan unwrapped slab, has anyone else come across this? Or know what it is? I can only assume it's some kind of manufacturing imperfection.... Should this cause any probs?

Thanks guys.... B)

hi  the black things are just leftover rock it is appently made by melting rock then spining it to create fibres

Hey Luke, don't worry about them, they are inert and will not harm your plants.

Thanks tom, I appreciate it. I'm looking around for info on sog here, but the only sog I saw was in the sog or scrog forum.... And whilst it was growool, I think you know that it's quite a bit larger than mine. (3x 600w and three flood and drain tables compared to my 400w son t and 6 plant narrow sog.... lol ) Have you ever seen anything out there about growool sog? Or any sog for that matter.... Can you use a screen with sog? Or am I aiming for more singular buds... There are so many questions to ask.... Any help on this will be greatly appreciated.... Gotta stop doing this.... ..... B) :D

Sea Of Green is a method of taking cones, vegging them for around two weeks and then flowering them, you are virtually growing heads on sticks and you can fit up to nine clones per square foot, if you use a screen then you are growing by the SCROG method.

Here's a link to atopic on SOG, heap of pictures too: SOG topic.

Yup, that was what I was referring to earlier. Anyhoo, I think I may go for the scrog, as I don't want that many plants! I'm thinking of six, 3 on each channel (100mm w x 70mm d x 700mm l). I've got two F1 mothers of bbxww, and they'll be ready to clone out in around a week, maybe two to be safe. These will be grown on under 18/6 under a screen and then flowered once they've spread out. This strain doesn't stretch very much, I can't believe how dense the buds are either, so I'm definitely going to be on the lookout for any budrots or such. I think the idea of sog just came to mind because if it was done at full size, these channels would be a small sog, but in the way I've got the growool slabs setup, it will end up a scrog.... phew! Who woulda thought it would be that much effort to say that!

Oh, and check out the growool book that was just posted... COOL! lol
