I heard on the radio today that the virus has a lipid( fat) outer layer which soap is good at breaking down which kills the virus. So basic soap may be pretty effective.You heard correctly. The shell AKA corona of the virus is made of fat. As ya know from washing dishes, soap breaks down fat.This is why soap is so important when washing your hands.Alcohol also breaks down fats which is why it's used for disinfecting surfaces. So in no short supply there. Yeah basic soap would be more effective then hand sanitizer Frank. But if your out and about and haven't got any running water and you need to do a quick effective job at killing 99.9% of germs/potential viruses, hand sanitizer.
