Medical Access

Question

A couple of months ago I asked my GP about obtaining cannabis to treat my ongoing symptoms.

"Ohh ahhh, I don't know anything about the processes, I wouldn't know where to start..."

Being that I'm in SA and there being no clinic's here (our state Gov't (Liberal) still have their heads buried firmly up their own arses)  I thought the whole process would be a waste of time

I went investigating and found a clinic in NSW, who would go through the whole process online.

So after a couple of weeks of paperwork both from myself and my GP, today I got the call from the clinic and have had the initial approval.

I now have to obtain the approval from the TGA but from what I've been told this should not be a problem and should take less than a week.

The Dr I spoke to has told me that what he would be prescribing is a CBD and THC combination as my situation is pain related.

I asked the Dr about the cost of the medication itself as it is NOT on the PBS and I have to say it is NOT cheap.

The Dr himself would not actually tell me a defined cost but advised me to call the chemist in Victoria.

Upon doing so I was told $270/50ml + postage ($30), so $300 delivered. First thought "Fuck, it'd be cheaper to go buy an ounce" but have decided to follow through with the process.

At this point I have not been told of the recommended dosages, so how long that 50ml is going to last I am unsure.

I am also unsure if I may be able to get my local chemist to get it in for me or whether it needs to come from an approved compounding chemist, solely in Victoria.

So the processes have been started. The dr and the prepaid TGA approvals have cost me $550 so far (that's without the script itself), so let's see how much more it's gonna cost

When I have any further info I will let you all know.

Just thought others maybe interested

Ohh some stern words were had Aqua. Not happy and they got that message

But as I said "The prescriber is blaming Auspost. Auspost is blaming the prescriber."

"Only thing I think of would be to get a video appointment with a provider who has a chemist attached so less chance of anything going wrong." I could but then I'd have to start all over again, completing all of their required paperwork and the new set of fees/charges to go along with it all.

Being that it's an S8, it has to be original paperwork with the documented approvals, so no emails, no faxes and no copies

I did in the beginning state that I would follow through with this process and that is exactly what I'm planning on doing. They did tell me that the envelope had 6 other scripts in it too, so I'm not the only one having this 'FUN'.

Unfortunately merl the delays and lack of accountability for the delays you are experiencing is nothing new under this TGA system. This has been going on since the first patients in Qld began accessing legal medical cannabis. From delays in scripts to transfer of scrips to providers to import issues and the list goes on. All this TGA medical cannabis system boils down to in the end is a very very unreliable supply chain for patients that costs them a fortune to have the privilege of being screwed around by. :( :( :(

Recieved a call today from the chemist, they have recieved the script

Payment has been made. They informed me that some one else has an order for 3 bottles but that they will take one of these bottles and forward it to me, then order a replacement to fill the other script.

I've been in contact with the pharmacy daily trying to find out WTF was going on, so they are aware of the issues and are willing to accommodate.

The delivery will be express posted to me (let's see how reliable this one is lol )

Seemingly so SE, well that's what I've been told. I've also been told it has to be signed for, so although, yea, it's in the post, it ain't gonna be simply 'in my postbox'

Now, I'm out in the sticks a bit so I'm still expecting it to take a few days

But I'll be certain to let youse all know of the outcome.
