Medical Access

merl1n

Question

A couple of months ago I asked my GP about obtaining cannabis to treat my ongoing symptoms.

"Ohh ahhh, I don't know anything about the processes, I wouldn't know where to start..."

Being that I'm in SA and there being no clinic's here (our state Gov't (Liberal) still have their heads buried firmly up their own arses)  I thought the whole process would be a waste of time

I went investigating and found a clinic in NSW, who would go through the whole process online.

So after a couple of weeks of paperwork both from myself and my GP, today I got the call from the clinic and have had the initial approval.

I now have to obtain the approval from the TGA but from what I've been told this should not be a problem and should take less than a week.

The Dr I spoke to has told me that what he would be prescribing is a CBD and THC combination as my situation is pain related.

I asked the Dr about the cost of the medication itself as it is NOT on the PBS and I have to say it is NOT cheap.

The Dr himself would not actually tell me a defined cost but advised me to call the chemist in Victoria.

Upon doing so I was told $270/50ml + postage ($30), so $300 delivered. First thought "Fuck, it'd be cheaper to go buy an ounce" but have decided to follow through with the process.

At this point I have not been told of the recommended dosages, so how long that 50ml is going to last I am unsure.

I am also unsure if I may be able to get my local chemist to get it in for me or whether it needs to come from an approved compounding chemist, solely in Victoria.

So the processes have been started. The dr and the prepaid TGA approvals have cost me $550 so far (that's without the script itself), so let's see how much more it's gonna cost

When I have any further info I will let you all know.

Just thought others maybe interested

Today is the first day of the second week at full dose. So here's a bit of a run down on the first week.

Things are humming along quite well.  Started at .25ml x2/day then increased to .5ml x2/day with 2 opiates x1/day

There are the 'Do not drive' warnings on everything, the box, the bottle and the paperwork

The other day I had to drive to an appointment, so no oil. Ohh what a day pain wise. Nasty.  Back to 8 opiates in the day just to manage.

The following day woke up awful bad, straight to the oil. It took a while longer than the opiate to settle it, but eventually it calmed down.

For the last couple of days things have gone back to .5ml x2/day with 2 opiates x1/day

I'm sitting here with a nice buzz. I'm by no means thinking ʞɔnɟ sɐ pǝuoʇs ɯı uɐɯ although I have had a double dose, just to try it out, and, yep there's certainly THC in there lol But it's more like a cookie stone than smoking.

Has there been a benefit? Yes. Have I eliminated the pharmas? No. Have I been able to reduce the pharmas? Yes. Will the benefit be long term? Who knows at this point. The trial will continue.

sound good so far mate

i've seen Dr Ethan Russo talk about tolerance & it only takes a single week break from oral consuming to pretty much be back to your starting position

which is allot quicker than smoking which can take multiple weeks for the same

thanks for the update Merl

Hey TheInsideMan,

"....I do have a question though. What happens if you get pulled over and tested positive for thc?"

Same as anyone else who test positive I suspect. It may be a prescribed medication but that doesn't make the consumer exempt from the law. Even the opiates have warnings, but some codeine products are available over the counter. Quantifying how much codeine impairs an individual is near on impossible and because it is legal, unless it can be seen that an individual is impaired, usually they leave people alone. Canna is not in the same category... ...Yet. We all hope that in time this changes but here, now, today, test positive and you're in da shit.

Hey Bufo,

The TGA approval is ONLY for the pharma product and not for GVM (Green Vegetable Matter). As far an the TGA are concerned smoking of anything is frowned upon, although the manufacturer does suggest vaping GVM if immediate effect is required.

Hey merl1n so glad all's working good for you, what ever it takes to lower the pharma meds gotta be good. Do you think after a while you'll be trying to make your own oil up with a mix of thc and cbd?

I've made up 3 different mtc oils and do like the different effect it has on your system, had bad back pain one day and just oiled up and chilled watching the tv and didn't feel much at all which I liked, and even some times after working around home and got that aching feeling a dropper full before bed and you gotta time it right to get up and get to bed otherwise just don't wanna move.

It's a good thread letting others know how the procedure goes, good on you for doing it [emoji106]

Glad your finding relief for your pain mate.

All the best
