From what i can understand the Greens members send their preferences to Labor or Liberal individualy, i have been in contact with them about their policies and where they send their preferences. They tell me they will have all their parties individual members preferences finalised by the end of the month so as soon as i know i will post the info here. It could be good to have a look around their website and maybe send them a coo-ee and asking them about what interests you.

Their main page.

http://www.greens.org.au/

Their policy page.

http://www.greens.org.au/policies/

Their policy on drugs.

http://www.greens.org.au/policies/society/...useandaddiction

Also from what i found out the Greens are the biggest supporters of legalising/decriminalising use, they also have some very good environmental policies, that said i find it hard to believe any politician as they will say anything to get a vote.

I am inclined to agree with you about little johny and will be carefully guiding my preferences to Labor.

It's true, the Greens are the only major party which advocates a complete rethink on not only cannabis but other drug law reforms as well, but there are lots of others who will no doubt put their hands up for the senate races... And even perhaps a few independents will run in the lower house too...

But the best way to make your voice heard is to vote completely in the senate, (below the line, I know it's a bitch, but that's why they made it one, so that you don't get as much say if you vote above the line....) and to look out there, question your local members and canditates. Let them know why you think cannabis law reform is important to you, and ask them what they'll do about it.

The fact is, there are a few million political prisoners out there who've been gaoled, mistreated, have had all their rights either removed or seriously curtailed, and all of it is just to do with Pot. If you include the other illegal drugs which are out there, the picture gets even uglier. Prohibition, whatever it's form, doesn't work, and we know this. It's only because the people speak up about the inequities that they're fixed, otherwise they'll just keep feeding us the same old bullshit, and we'll keep eating.

I'll be voting Green at this election, not only because I support the Greens drug policy, but also because I support their other social and moral stands on various issues. In the end, I'd hate to think that I'd be voting for someone just because they'll make my personal situation better if their policies were enacted, but in the end, isn't that what we all do? Think about it before you vote. lol

is it just me or are ALL of the ppl running in this election afraid of the greens?

They are taking cheap shots all over the place, eg. i got a phamphlet in the mail yesty saying that if labour gets in power because of the greens "they'll have to do the MAD THINGS they want".....these mad things include supporting currently illegal drugs, making ppl who earn more money pay more tax and making low income earners pay less, keeping telstra the way it is so local calls dont get a fixed amount of time, etc..

"MAD THINGS"??? they just secured my vote :reallyexcited:

honestly i think the main reason they are copping so much shit is because they want to make a difference to the lower class majority of australia....now if u had the chance to lower taxes for higher income earners and ur earning say $80-150k yearly and a party like the greens says u are going to pay more tax if i get into power, would u be calling them crazy?

they are just looking out for their own life styles and are all too bigga bunch of old farts to wanna change anything.....

VOTE GREENS, FREE THE WEED AND GIVE YASELF A TAX BREAK ;)

dunno bout u guys but these slander campaigns make me wanna vote more for em lol lol

It's never quite as simple as that.

Unfortunately, lowering tax for low income earners means the money needs to be found somewhere else, high income earners and business seem the obvious choice but if business gets a tax hike many companies will move their operations to another country, not only depriving the government of tax but also creating more unemployment and the high wage earners who are generally employed by big companies like their jobs. Big companies squeeze the government for low tax, you could call it legal blackmail.

In the end the country has to be governed in a certain way, but that doesn't mean change can't take place. So while we are getting stiffed by the government and big business they could make our lives a bit more enjoyable by legalising mj and stop calling us criminals.

my way of getting the money as mj would hopefully become legal would be to open mass commercial pot farms owned by the government, open a chain of stores australia wide like a 24/7 dealer where u can legally buy weed if your over 18 or what ever...

not only could the government dictate to the quality, prices, supply, etc. They would also make millions daily....+ mj wouldnt be valuable to the "black market" no more as the government would be growing and selling cheaper than what it can be grown at home....+ if its really good shit too, australia could end up exporting alot of pot all around the world pissing the USA right off :reallyexcited:

with all the jobs that would be created due to a chain like this opening + mass profits made daily, i think any tax break for low income earners could be easily achieved....+ u could end up putting alot of these ppl to work getting them off the dole and hopefully being able to make a future for themself.

lol

alot of people used to think like this, they were called communists...now theres not near as many of them...

yes, if the australian government is running the worlds only legal cannabis farms, they can dictate the prices, the supply, and the quality, they can also dictate how their workers are treated and what they are paid, and the workers have no other options for better employers if they have specialised in the dope growing field. In the end theres still sum fatcats at the end of the line getting fatter off all your hard work...

Even though its still shitty as fuck, the competition between different corporations in our capitalist society is what gives incentive for greedy bosses to treat their employees with sum sort of respect and more pay (if you can call taking most of the proceeds of other peoples hard work and giving them a very small fraction of what their work earned "respect").

....+ u could end up putting alot of these ppl to work getting them off the dole and hopefully being able to make a future for themself

for sum reason there is alot of doubt in my mind that the government legalising cannabis to make huge profits for themselves will create less dole bludgers... maybe its just cos im a stoner whos never submit to slavery for a day in my life tho....

Why set up a chain of stores? The cost would be phenominal.

Far more likely, if legalised, it would be sold through liscenced outlets like bottle shops. That way there are minimal retail setup costs.

From what i can understand there are already legal farms overseas so it's not the world first or only.

Considering the insane amount of tax on tobaco the government would probably do quite well for itself and it's debatable if there would be any benefit to the user price wise.

Also the quality and variety would have to be top notch or the black market would flourish anyway.

The way i see it, it could work but the people who know what they are doing would have to be given jobs on government farms (for realistic wages considering their expertise), and the liquor liscencing laws amended to include mj and obviously the laws reguarding the legality of mj changed.

It's a big ask but the government has set for itself and undertaken bigger tasks.

There is definitely money to be made by the government if they "legalised" it (actually, it would still be a controlled substance, meaning you have to be 18+).

Australia's dope industry is bigger than our wine industry. Think about that. MJ is also worth more per ounce than gold.

But the problem with it being taxed, is that they'd probably still make it illegal to grow your own (as with tobacco).

I wish they'd at least make industrial hemp legal! (oh, but that would put the timber & cotton industries out of business!)

oh yeah, GO THE GREENS!!!!!!!! Bring it on!!!
