Thanks Ele :D

I had a question in general for you guys out there on my cloning technique - it might be a good idea to double check and see that I didn't do anything wrong.

They're sitting on one of those 25 C Heatpads, in rockwool, under 2 x 18w fluros... Misting twice daily with a ph adjusted solution that contains a bit of superthrive, cutting feed, and some root enhancer - all at weak levels, of course. The drip tray also has a good amount of this same solution in which the bottom of the rockwool cubes are slightly lying in - so in effect everything is very moist, humid, and warm in there.

I am wondering though, is it bad to have the rockwool cubes in contact with solution at the base of the tray? Too wet on the cubes, perhaps?

Cheers.

Do not leave a pool of water in the base of the humidicrib. The rockwool cubes need to be drained well, keeping them in contact with solution will just waterlog them. :D

I only spray the underside of the humidicrib lid, not the clones themselves, unless the cubes are noticeably dry. Then it's a quick spray through the cubes, avoiding the foliage, and make sure it's squeezed or shaken gently so as to remove excess water. ;)

Ah shit! Really? Well I had better drain them as soon as I get home, hopefully root rot won't have set in.

My tray as a drip tray beneath it, I might leave the water in there instead of in contact with the cubes... just to give the roots something to dig down towards and keep the humidity cranking.

Cool, cheers for that. Ta for the comments guys, will post an update when they show signs of progress.

dont feel bad about people not posting about your grow thread i think a lot of people look but just dont bother commenting

Yeah I was starting to feel like my thread was composed entirely of my own posts as well; but Pipeman is the king of encouragement and always drops by to check on things (onya Pipe ;) )

I took my first clones not long ago and I'm giving this a go too. I'm hoping they'll go in search of the water below the dome drip tray. I haven't seen any roots penetrate the bottom of the rocco cubes yet ;) I wish you better luck than me Bubba

You shouldn't need any moisture in the base of the tray at all if the cubes are moist enough. ;) If you've soaked them for 24 hrs beforehand, in ph adjusted water, (around 5, which makes them end up around the ideal 5.5 mark,) then slightly sqeezed or shaken out, then they should be fine. Make sure that if you do have a bit of moisture in the base of the tray, (which may form even if it's started empty, what with gravity and all) that it doesn't touch the cubes whatsoever.... Rockwool holds more than enough moisture to get the roots started.... ;)

Oh, and one more, the less disturbance they receive during this time, i.e. pulling them out and looking for roots, then the quicker they'll root. All you have to do is keep the atmostphere moist, the light long, soft and regular, and the cubes and cuttings will do the rest. ;) It can take between 3 days to almost a month for some cuttings to take, but usually it's within 10 days at the most 2 weeks or so. Don't be too concerned if they look ratty and start to yellow somewhat, they'll do that as they cannabilise their leaf tissue for root building blocks. Once you spot rooting, you can start to introduce and extremely weak nutrient, like 10% to 25% of full. (I usually use 1/5 or 1/6.) but don't be too keen to overdo it too quickly.

Hope you have some good luck cloning mate, make sure you have some good labels there and don't fret too much trying to find the "perfect" way to clone. They're a readily "struck" species and are fairly easy to take cuttings from, provided the environment is conducive. I'm sure you'll do fine.

And yeah, don't be too bothered that not everone posts in here, I've got about 700 pics in some of my grow threads and yet only 2 or maybe 3 peeps will post in there after any given bunch of pics I post....Everyone is most welcome of course, but hey, as long as it helps someone else in their grow, I'm happy. ;) :D

A little encouragement is nice tho...
