yeah... I think you might be correct....when i go in there and then go outside....I can hardly see anything...so I'll move the light up about 50 cm

also I'm no expert, but it can't be good for your eyes spending time in your growroom with a HID on. personally I'm gonna start wearing shades.

yeah. I think that's spot on pipeman... although I kinda found that comming out and looking at the world through a blue haze was kinda trippy...I hope I don't go blind...

Putard, that light needs to be about 120cm (4') away from those plants at this stage, move it down to grow height when they have a couple of nodes.

 

To set the light to grow height, start at 45cm/18" above the plants, hold your hand palm down level with the top of the plant for a few minutes. If it feels too hot on the back of your hand the light is too close, if cool then it's too far away. If it's pleasantly warm and it feels as if you could hold your hand there all day then it's OK.

yeah... that's how it feels now... nice and warm...when I close the door and stand inside the closet for 5 mins...it gets to be abit like a sauna though...

standing in there is not a real good indication because your body will tend to heat up the closet anyway. plus, you're not a plant.

 

buy a thermometer that records min/max temps. there's a good selection at any Dick Smith's store.

Your seedlings are expecting a gentle warm spring sun, not harsh mid summer sun.

OK...day 4 1/2 one more nlpi has come up... most of the other beans have split the shell but aren't doin too much else...one or two of the skunk#1's havn't even done that....I suppose it'll take another 5-6 days...and might be luck and still have them comming up in a couple of weeks...who knows...

 

Last night I left the hps on all night with the door shut.... not too many light leaks... the masking tape worked wonders..but it was very hot in the growroom..

 

I noticed that the new seedling is very pale...not very green looking compared to the others...do you think this is a sign of heat stress?? Ok it's almost 4o'clock now... new shoot has started to turn purple and green, and has a tiny first set of leaves forming....The other two shoots are still very healthy looking...one has its first node getting alot larger..

by pipeman's holy word...I decided to try and measure the temperature in the grow room. I pinched the temp gauge off my beer brewing kit and put it on the clone box.. off the scale.. at 38 C it's slightly blue... with the shade open and the door open the 38 is blue so it's probably about 40 C .... at night it probably is getting up to about 45 - 46 C ... Oh well... I reckon they'll still grow... I have to get a more accurate temp readout before abandoning things though....

 

First seedling still appears to be very healthy with it's second node only just appearing.. second seedling on it's first node but one of the side leaves have curled up...and is pointing vertical... third seedling has turned green and is just forming first node but is only just noticable...

 

After a few tries in different locations I got 38 in the sun at the bottom floor of the grow... 32 in the shade beside the clone box... 38 above the light... but around 40 - 42 ontop/inside of the clone box..

 

What should I do with the clone box hood? All the little vent holes are open already.. Should I leave it on?
