I just been reading the seedsdirect homepage....I've seen the big bag of skunk#1's there before but I didn't read the text... oh well december last year these seeds were four years old (that makes em 4 1/2 year old now) and they say 70% germ rate...Do you think I should germ these first and save the nlpi for later - or germ some of both??

All that Marijuana Botany stuff you quoted is bullshit, if you make seeds with that method you will end up with hermy seeds that are predominantly female with no true males. Most female plants are not Xx they are Xy.

meaning a dominant female gene and a recessive male gene.

That book is really old, its one of my faves but it was written in 1979, the valuable shit in that book is the botanical facts and the landrace descriptions and drawings.

Putard how are you growing with bubblers and seeds?? how many plants are you going to flower at the end. If you are growing from seed, I'd recommend 4 bubblers and sprout 10 seeds at a time, pot them in smallish pots of perlite and sex them early then move 4 girls to your buckets.

You need to grow all females from a pack of seeds, to find the special one, some of the best plants are the scrawniest in veg, not often, but sometimes.

Them skunk seeds should be good, it says skunkman made them, if that is sam the skunkman then you more than likely have the original skunk, cos sam the skunkman imported Skunk as seeds to Amsterdam for Cultivators Choice. It should be the same as The Flying Dutchmen's 'The Pure' which is the original skunk.

I've heard of 9 year old seeds germing, I think it was 1 seed out of a whole jar, but that is double 4 1/2.

anyhoo, good luck.

Hey Putard, I was given an NL clone a couple of nights ago, I'm growing it for clones at the moment, be interesting to see how they grow using two different hydro methods.

Things are sorta picking up now...I made an error in not getting some ph testing stuff and I knew the tapwater in brizzy would be out, so I had to wait. Today I got some ph testing gear and also one of thos little measuring cones from the pharmacy.. great...mixed up 20 ltrs of nutes and budlink...about or a bit less what gh recommends for seedlings..dunked some grow-wool blocks in it and they're in a little cloning box right now..

The box is ontop of a fridge and behind a microwave oven..I use the microwave a fair bit...hope it doesn't affect the seeds germination..ha.

OK I'm hoping to have 50% of the nlpi to come up and about 30% of the skunk#1's get up...willing to wait about a month before I toss the rest of them out..

I think the tapwater in brizzy is about 8-9...fairly alkaline I think..added 15ml ph down from nutriflo to about 15 ltrs and the ph shot down to about 3...of the chart I think...so I had to tip half out and fill the bucket about 3 times before I got it to about 5-6.. The rockwool blocks turned out to be fairly neutral in ph so that was kool.

I must admit, this confused me white cluster, as XX and XY does not refer to dominant or recessive genes. It refers to chromosomes. (these are made up of genes) If the chromosomes are XX then it is female, if XY it is male. There is no "recessive" male gene, because when two parents mate to produce offspring, then one half of the genetic code is transferred from each parent to make the new zygote. This means that female's can only ever contribute the "X" part of the sex chromosome, as they have "XX", so both halves are the same, but the male can contribute either "X" or "Y" to the new offspring, because the sex chromosome in males is "XY" The Y is called thus because this particular pair of chromosomes has a very short leg on one side, so instead of looking like the classic "X" of a pair of chromosomes, it appears as a "Y". Where is this stuff about most female plants being XY? Where are you learning your biology? :D
