while your home made heating pad will in fact work, saying that heating pads are a waste of money is a tad silly considering you are wanting to make one that will require more maintenance than a store bought one

gazza made pretty much exactly what you have in mind, im not sure if he uploaded pics of it or not, but have a look in his grow diaries and you might get lucky

to use the netpot will require you to cut the lid of the tub to pieces, not really a big deal if you have a seperate tub for that and your heating pad  you'll also need an air pump and a water pump for atleast the first week to prevent the cubes from drying out and to ensure that the nutrient mix doesnt settle + gets air to the roots once they hit the water

yeah, gotta agree with the fellas here on the heatpads. My first cloning effort I got about 60% strike rate, I was using homemade methods for heating and yeah its high maintenance. Looking back, heat/moisture issues were the reason for the lower strike rate.

My second go at cloning my mate lent me his heatpad. Whacked this under my 8 CS clones in my Yates mini-crib, put a thermometer in there to keep an eye on temps, and the result - 8 beautifully healthy clones. Temps stayed at around 25 degrees.

All I had to do was turn the heatpad off in the daytime,as my ambient temps were enough to sustain around 25 degrees, and just turn her back for overnight. Gave em all 10ml water/superthrive if the rockwool felt 'light'. I'm sure some other factors may have contributed to the success, but I'm certain the heatpad played the major role.

Cheers.

i made one as other members said it worked awesome i used a tub around 50-60L a 50-55w aquaone water heater set to 20-22c the humidity crib should be spot on 26c at the top of the crib i dont really like the unthermostated heated pads had one wont buy another one to much fucking around if u grow year round u need to keep notes of what months u can use them without frying the clones as there set to 1 temp setting this will be fine during winter but come warmer months if u dont turn it off it'll be a waist of time so IMO either build a cheap one with a fish tank heater or buy the slightly more expensive one with a thermostat i think the cheaper ones without a thermostat are set at 30c? someone correct me if im wrong

with the home made heating pad i got 100% strike rate first time and every time after also after a couple of times using it i had ready to plant clones in 6 days :peace:

heh, lacking any specialised germination equipment i have constructed a 50-60W heater out of a 'peltier' cooler/heater and a couple of big heatsinks, im powering it off the 5.5V USB rail off of my computer, i managed to keep a constant 28 degrees inside a small cupboard.

fuck me dead, you're using a couple $thou worth of gear to do what a $30 heat mat would. But hey, if you already had it on hand... it was free- for this purpose anyway, wasn't it?

PE devices are black magic, lotsa fun, very interesting stuff.

I have a plain ol fixed temp heat mat, runs about 29-30c, moulded in silicone rubber. Wasn't as cheap as the ones made from a shell of blow-moulded plastic, but that sort don't last 7 years plugged in continuously... this silicone mat has. No idea where to get another one, haven't seen them in yonks. Don't recall exactly what I paid for it but $60 sticks in my mind. 100% strikes every time as long as I get the watering right.

heh, i did consider getting a heating mat but realised i literally have 10 dollars left to my name, the peltier is about 3 years old and only cost 40 or 50 back when i bought it, its only a baby one, and the computer powering it is a shitty old pentium 3 hehe

ironically i never used the peltier on a computer, just fooled around with it and eventually cracked a corner of it meaning its useless for cooling now lol

I've struggled on for months without a heatpad and finally I bit the bullet and bought one.

Funny how I didn't hesitate to spend money on any other area but baulked at the cost of a heatpad? B)

Anyway...theresults spoke for themselves, the run without the heat mat harvested 3/12 clones.

With the heat & grow mat it was 14/16.

Proof was in the pudding.....hmmm....pudding! B)
