Legislative Council - Wednesday, 12 November 2008, Page 686 CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES (PALLIATIVE USE OF CANNABIS) AMENDMENT BILL The Hon. A. BRESSINGTON (00:18): I rise today to speak on this bill, which has been put before us by the Hon. Sandra Kanck. Its content is of no surprise, nor is its real intent. It is a mischievous bill and, if it were not sending such a dangerous message to our youth, it would also be quite laughable. I am always amused when either the Greens or the Democrats move motions in this place (as the Hon. Mark Parnell intended to do today) to recognise international conventions for the environment, to call for world peace or to address breaches of …

Many people are spending months in prison on remand when the original charge (possession of cannabis) would only attract a fine or community service. Many people cannot afford legal representation and are being refused bail because they are poor or have no fixed address. This is part of an 80 page brief to the Supreme Court of NSW for a relatively minor cannabis offence. Recent research shows that the costs to hold this person on remand for a simple cannabis offence (probably the equivalent of a joint) for the 3 months would have cost the NSW state government approximately $30,000 The Supreme Court granted immediate bail. Governments needs to start evaluating …

Sa new hydro laws are scary I mean I would only ever grow 2 – 3 large plants at time and would like to think if I got busted that it would be for the plants themselves but this new hydro equipment laws are a lot worse than the dope plants themselves. This state has become such a joke and has gone so backward. Laws should reflect the communities opinions on such matters well at least be as close to as possible, but it seems some illiterate arrogant few cock heads want to waste millions in tax money busting Joe blow for owning hydro lights filters and what not facing 2 years jail or $10,000 fines. While one can grow 1 plant in soil outdoors with only a $300 fine. And let’s …

I was just wondering if you can import seeds into W.A. I heard a rumor(and then read on here) that you can grow your own cannabis for personal use in western australia. Does this mean seeds are illegal? and if they are not, couldn't you just import the seeds from overseas to W.A and then send them through the post? This would solve the customs problemo.

Hey it's late, but I was wondering if anyone, anywhere might be able to tell me the specific law that outlines cannabis use and/or possesion. The real thing, not just a translation of meaning, if youse don't mind. Sort of curious about some linguistic loopholes I'm hoping one might be able to jump through. Thnx in advnce!!
