Medical Access

Question

A couple of months ago I asked my GP about obtaining cannabis to treat my ongoing symptoms.

"Ohh ahhh, I don't know anything about the processes, I wouldn't know where to start..."

Being that I'm in SA and there being no clinic's here (our state Gov't (Liberal) still have their heads buried firmly up their own arses)  I thought the whole process would be a waste of time

I went investigating and found a clinic in NSW, who would go through the whole process online.

So after a couple of weeks of paperwork both from myself and my GP, today I got the call from the clinic and have had the initial approval.

I now have to obtain the approval from the TGA but from what I've been told this should not be a problem and should take less than a week.

The Dr I spoke to has told me that what he would be prescribing is a CBD and THC combination as my situation is pain related.

I asked the Dr about the cost of the medication itself as it is NOT on the PBS and I have to say it is NOT cheap.

The Dr himself would not actually tell me a defined cost but advised me to call the chemist in Victoria.

Upon doing so I was told $270/50ml + postage ($30), so $300 delivered. First thought "Fuck, it'd be cheaper to go buy an ounce" but have decided to follow through with the process.

At this point I have not been told of the recommended dosages, so how long that 50ml is going to last I am unsure.

I am also unsure if I may be able to get my local chemist to get it in for me or whether it needs to come from an approved compounding chemist, solely in Victoria.

So the processes have been started. The dr and the prepaid TGA approvals have cost me $550 so far (that's without the script itself), so let's see how much more it's gonna cost

When I have any further info I will let you all know.

Just thought others maybe interested

As per another government dept, they have an impairment table which one has to meet to be considered eligible

One contrary 'opinion' and you are deemed ineligible.

They should use their own measures / impairment tables for drug tests.

Hell, if they did that no one would be assessed as impaired unless they couldn't even stand upright, in which case they shouldn't be behind the wheel anyway.

The tests used for RDT only test for residual THC in the mouth not metabolites in the saliva. They also give false positives and false negative results. The NSW police stated on court record under questioning that yes their testing gives false negatives during a case recently heard before Lismore court. It was stated that a flaw in the testing is false negatives from drivers who had consumed cannabis in a way that left no residue in the mouth such as oil caps for eg. Sydney university has also recently released results of their studies that show the testing can give both false positive and false negative tests.

Don't believe just because they say you were positive it's true. Their testing is flawed and there is evidence available to prove it if you need to...

so if a false positive occurred 5 days after smoking cannabis, could they make you give a urine sample and go off the metabolite found in urine to deem you impaired? Or do they send off a saliva sample for laboratory testing?

The standard RDT involves a swab test only not a urine test.

If you have been involved in an accident though where someone was injured a blood test is mandatory.

Had the 2nd review this morning.

Explained that even with the increased dosage I'm still finding in the morning I need an opiate. The oil takes some time to kick in, where the opiate works quicker.

The canna Dr informed me that I could "...vape some GVM in the morning but this would mean buying a temp adjustable vape to administer it...' No problem, I just so happen to have a temp adjustable vape lol

Now, he's going to prescribe both GVM and the oil. As mentioned before the oil cost is $300 delivered. I've been informed the GVM cost is 5g for $145.

He informed me the GVM comes in varying strengths from 14% THC with 11% CBD to 23% thc with 20% CBD. I've tried to find this strength on the Aphria page, but I can't see it, so I can only surmise that it's from a differing supplier

I have called the chemist to enquire on the 'Full cost' (and other queries) but the specific chemist I need to talk to is not available until Thursday/Friday.

Initially, I was told GVM was not going to be available and possibly this was to weed out people looking for a smoke, but at the price? Christ, you'd be mad to be scoring via this route lol

But it turns out GVM IS available.

When I have further information I'll let youse all know.

Hey Bob,

Yes there are differing types, at differing % and some solely CBD and some hybrid (THC & CBD) at differing ratios. This Capilano oil was recommended by the prescribing Canna Dr

On the label of this concoction it states 10.5 mg/ml THC and 12.9 mg/ml CBD. It certainly tastes like the real deal, but then I suppose that'd be easy enough to fake.

Aphria, the Canadian manufacturer, states that it is derived from naturally grown (sunlight) cannabis. BUT as per Canadian law the concentrate must be diluted to a known quantity of active ingredient. So, is it natural? the active components may be derived from a natural source but then mixed with a MCT (multi chain triglyceride) oil and that ain't natural, but to meet Canadian legal requirements it has to be done.

When I have further information I'll let youse all know.

Spoke to the pharmacist this morning.

The product being supplied is Bedrocan from a company called Bedrocan. They are a Dutch company. It is imported into Australia by Novachem, an Australian drug supplier.

Again, the pharmacy hold none in stock and it has to be ordered in. As mentioned before, the Canna dr told me the cost was $145/5gm, the chemist tells me $184/5gm (+$30 delivery) Bloody expensive!!!
