Capitalism dictates that indoor commercial growers are all about the money so they will use plant growth regulators to bulk up their crops.  They know it will double their yield while reducing the overall flowering time making the small investment in PGRs a no brainer.  Growing on a commercial scale outdoors has become increasingly difficult and when a personal grower needs to pay a bill their buds move at the speed of light (once word gets out the new shitty looking buds for sale are decent that is) meaning the market is dominated by commercial guys flooding it with PGR'd garbage.  The really shitty thing about it though is that the old hydro buds grown to perfection brainwashed the population into outright knowing hydro is always better than bush.  They got to see ever tighter nugs and were ensured of quality which made the consumer want more.  Over time the commercial guys went indoors and gave them exactly what they wanted, bigger, less leafy, tighter, hydroponically grown buds that look stupidly good in a bag compared to a bush buds and let the hit or miss quality of their previous crops infect the indoor scene.  Now their garbage has become so prevalent that most people wouldn't even know what good buds smoke up like and the people that get into growing base their choice to keep a plant based on what they know which usually means PGR ideals like high weight, low flowering times, etc.  and since any old plant will seem great compared to PGR'd crap personal growers aren't running the numbers needed to find truly great plants.   People just don't know what they're missing and people that long for the buds of old are looked down upon like how dare they question the uber dense nugs not smothered in leaf available today.  It's depressing to say the least and heartbreaking when you think about all the genetics that have been lost in the pursuit of money

PGR's are chemical Plant Growth Regulators. They often come as a 2 part nutrient additive. Add one, then a few days later add the other. Some people say they increase the density of the bud, but decrease the quality. They are used in horticulture extensively but there is very little in the way of info regarding the health effects of smoking substances treated with PGR's. Due to the increase in density light cannot penetrate the bud and often the inner buds show bleaching, also due to density, mould can be a problem as there is very little/no airflow thru the bud allowing moisture build up, hence mould problems.

PGR's are used primarily by commercial growers as they can get a faster crop. It is said that it can advance growth by around 2 weeks, so instead of taking the crop at the minimal 8weeks, using PGR's they can harvest at around 6wks.

The connoisseurs of smoke reject the use of PGR's.

Thanks K9, Merl1n. Wholeheartedly. The reason I'm looking into growing my own is just that, the commercialisation that infected the scene so long ago.

@ brick (hey stoner )   I was one of those.  I agree.  Its a cash cow for a lazy govt as displays what they really feel concerning the health and amenity of australian families-not baggin the grog but its insane over here man.  Too f'ken much but we aren't told the truth concerning this.  76 women a year by partners-9 times more likely to die by a parner than a stranger.  i read piss.  I've seen it in action.  they jus let the devils go cos they lazy and they want more money.  Be interesting to view partner/ex-partner figures.  I think ex's are something like one a week in aus.  I realize not all these are piss related but....????  any soz the rant but I think we drink like swine.

 

Oh k-9 I don't think the illegal trade in cannabis can be classified as a free market or pure capitalism.  Not with all the prohibition and lies.

most of the time when I get a oz and its rock solid with pgrs no crystels on buds I pass it on to the next person I think Iv smoked maybe a half a oz of that shit and it was horrible tasting and had to smoke lots of it to get much out of it

Plant growth regulator in this case paclobutrazol/chloremequat I saw glandore still list superbud which had diamizine(sp?)

 

inparticular paclo interrupts ga3 pathways, which is responsible for height but also resin production in canna plants
