phillips 315w LEC with D-Papillon reflector

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys and gals,

been a little while since i posted anything here but i have been playing with the new Phillips 315w LEC (Light Emitting Ceramic) lamp and the D-Papillon reflector.

thought i would share my results so you guys can see whats up with this lamp.

Its being marketed as an equivelant to a 600w lamp so there is quite a power saving there if this lamp can really do all it says it can. early signs are pointing to yes it can!

first up heres a look at the reflector and lamp. its an all in one unit with the ballast and reflector together.

its a nice unit with the butterfly style reflector. this reflector really helps you get the most coverage from the lamp, at heights of only 30cm or more its kicking out a footprint that easily covers my 1m x1m space and i suspect would easily cover a 1.2m x 1.2m space. the spread of light is very even and has no hotspots or shaded areas. it doesnt look as bright as a 600w though but that shouldnt be a surprise to anyone considering its only 315w.

the heat from the lamp is minimal and is quickly directed up and away from the grow space by the clever reflector design

now despite the fact that this lamp is only 315w it does produce large amounts of PAR light equivalent to that of a 600w. so although it may not appear quite as bright it certainly does grow plants with ease. i threw a couple of plants under my unit and honestly im getting so much growth i have to raise this lamp daily.

anyway stay tuned cause i just added a screen over these girls to stop vertical growth cause im sick of raising the light everyday and flipped to flower so we can see just how these little 315w lights can produce bud wise.

Mine are from EYE lighting CMH, Assie company who specialise in lighting. Check out their web site. They run off std MV running gear $85.00 from Electrical wholesalers, Globe 375w clear, which lets through the UV, so much so, I got a sun tan on one half of my face in about 30 secs.

I now use 50+ and sunnies when I work near them.

You can get them from specialist lamp suppliers, not hydro stores that I know of. $120.00

But Philips have a bulb that runs of your HPS gear. But its only available ex EU or USA.

I am totaly convinced it was these bulbs that let me grow a big sativa indoors. The plant looked just like an outdoor grow.

Interesting, who much did the unit cost and will be nice to find out how much GPW you get.

Also do you think it runs cooler so you could run through summer with out air con?

@the judge. keep an eye out at local hydro stores for these they are going to be popping up everywhere. early signs look like phillips have smashed it out of the park on this one.

dont expect them to be cheap, i am hearing anywhere from $1200 to $1500 but im sure the price will come down once the novelty wears off.

as for GPW i have no idea yet but stick around and we will see what this one i have can do.

heres a little shot of the growth in less than 24 hrs sice i dropped a screen over them

needless to say im very impressed so far

Hi mate I am using 2 x 375w CMH lamps and I agree, they give compact lush growth with less stretch than with a HPS. The light spectrum in the UV and red are heaps better than std MH or HPS. My plants grow strong like they would outside in the sun. I will never look back.

@tangwena i was using a similar set up. i had a dual lamp hood i made myself using 2 x 380w Phillips master colour CMH lamps this was giving me results equal to a 1000w hps (solistek with solistek digital lamp). i was very happy with that set up.

unfortunately phillips stopped making the mastercolour lamps i was using. im not sure if they are the exact same ones you are using though.

i thought this new lamp was just a money grab because once phillips realised they had such a good horticulture lamp in there stable they discontinued them and came out with this new rediculously expensive horticulture lamp. coincidence i think not.

however after using this lamp im very happy so far. flower is where it has to prove itself though but this lamp is specifically designed for horticulture and actually is quite different to the old lamp inside. Its no longer a CMH (ceramic metal halide) it is now classed as a LEC (light emitting ceramic) and the little ceramic ball inside looks quite different.

also this lamp is all about par output which we all know is what plants actually use and this lamp produces the goods.

In any case im not suggesting everyone run out and grab one of these super expensive lights just yet but stick around and see what happens this might just be the light that can do what LED's promised but never quite achieved. give us great yields with much lower power bills. i know i have already dropped about 400w of lighting and a 150mm inline fan and havnt seen any negative effects on growth yet, in fact this room is outgrowing my 1000w MH solistek 6k lamp in my other tent. so yeah im impressed
