NSW parliamentary inquiry into medical cannabis - due Feb 15

mjbarratt

Question

I thought contributors to this part of OZStoners would be very interested in this inquiry. Here is a quote from NSW parliament media release:

On 22 November 2012, the NSW Legislative Council referred an Inquiry into the medical use of cannabis to General Purpose Standing Committee No. 4. The Committee, chaired by the Hon Sarah Mitchell MLC of The Nationals, includes representatives of the Australian Labor Party, the Greens and the Liberal Party.

The motion to refer the Inquiry to General Purpose Standing Committee No. 4 was put forward by Labor member the Hon Luke Foley MLC, and was agreed to without opposition from Council members.

The Committee Chair, Mrs Mitchell said, 'The Committee will be examining the safety and efficacy of cannabis for medical purposes as well as considering if and how cannabis should be supplied for medical use. In addition, the Inquiry will investigate the legal implications of cannabis use for medical purposes, as well as any other related issues.'

'There is a diverse collection of views held on this issue by the community, and the Committee wishes to hear from the widest possible range of stakeholders.'

Submissions are now being called for by the Committee from interested organisations and individuals. The closing date for submissions in Friday 15 February 2013.

The Committee will to hold two Sydney hearings, in March 2013. Detailed information about the dates and times of these hearings will be advertised on the Committee website following the closing date for submissions. The Committee is scheduled to report to the House by 14 May 2013.

For further information about the Inquiry, including its terms of reference, and for more on how to make a submission, please visit the Committee's website at: www.parliament.nsw.gov.au/gpsc4, or call the Committee Secretariat on (02) 9230 3081

Click here to lodge your submission - before 15 Feb 2013!

And if you haven't already, you can also complete our anonymous study of Australian cannabis growers. We will be using this information to make an official submission to the inquiry so this is another way you can have your voice heard.

The greens weren't responsible for Black Saturday. You want to talk about a lunatic fringe in society, try the bastards that actually start the fucking fires in the first place. We lost Brian Naylor that weekend, I lost my father aswell........Rip all those victims of some ignorant, murderous bastards stupidity.

That's awful, sorry to hear that.

There was no back burning in Vic. simply because of the greens agitation not to burn. Bush fires are a fact of life in Aus. & back burning is a necessity. The intensity of the fires, the speed which it spread, was entirely due to the build up of fuel on the ground. It was a disaster waiting to happen regardless what triggered it. Lightning strike & downed power lines were more responsible for the fires than fuckwit arsonists that day.

Read up on what has happened to the natural bush in Cape York under Terri Irwins care. Irwin listened to dickhead greenies who advised no burning, rather than the traditional owners who advised the opposite. A huge fire raced through the area, so intense [like the B.S. fires] that their is no chance of the land regenerating back to it's natural state [just like parts of the Vic. natural bush won't either]

I feel for anyone who lost a loved one that day. If we are to avoid a repeat we need to lay the blame where it belongs & learn from our mistakes.

Greenies annoy me because they tend to be overbearing with their sanctimonious attitudes. That in itself is why greenies are well still small.

If they drop the sanctimonious attitude then they would be more accepted and maybe would be more powerful in the Australian political scene.

Also they are hypocrites, well some of them.

Hey Mr T can you define greenie? The thing about environmentalists is they are morally superior, because they are being driven by morals. Whereas much of society that bags them are *driven purely by the dollar.

Environmentalists are all for burning off, as it encourages biodiversity and is important for seed germination in many Aussie species of flora. I think in fact that the greens and the national party should form a coalition, because they essentially have similar values, of needing healthy land and a reduction in pest species, they both understand the need for social reform, however, opinions may differ when it comes to economy.

IMO enviromentalists aren't greenies. They are the people who have been on the land most of their lives and understand mother nature and how she works and they work with her. Greenies are people with an agenda (whatever the agendas are) and stop at nothing to get their point across without listening to reason from people, who actually know more than they do, it is easy to sit in a tree to stop it being cut down, until at great expense to the tax payer they are removed, and the tree gets cut down any way.

Why can't they sit with people who know the score and listen and try to get a compromise happening. Bloody mindedness just makes people angry and achieves nothing. Does not win the public over either. They did good when they first started with BB but got to carried away with their "victories" and again, imo are only nuisance value now.

I'd like to know how many of you have talked to a genuine garden variety rank & file greenie? I've met quite a few, most of them being part-time [well they do need time to demonstrate] money collectors for the Aus wildlife fund or whatever it's called. The average greenie has the zeal of a born-again.  They believe in an ideal. Of a utopia where all nationalities can co-exist in peace, butterflies & rainbows, puppy dogs & lolly-pops tra la la lah.  Their mantra is "imagine man". They want to open the flood gates to every refugee knocking illegally at our door & this was the final straw that broke labors co-operation with them, when labor finally started to do something about turning the boats back.

Don't look at the 'respectable' look of their pollies, or the toned down rhetoric of their speech, if you really want to see what the greenies really think go to one of their rallies & talk to the supporters. If your really lucky you'll get to hold hands around the campfire & sing kum bah yah :) haha.

Bricks correct. A greenie does not necessarily make an environmentalist nor vice versa. The main difference is that environmentalists often achieve positive outcomes when your common greenie is a waste of space that needs to carry around a tree to replace the oxygen they use.  :)

Does anyone remember this...

Mr Garrett has a history of walking out when things don't go his way.

I'd completely forgotten about the NDP. Talk about bringing back memories.

PG was good at making noise & drawing a crowd, promised much, delivered sweet bugger all.

Came, saw, got his snout in the trough & will now retire to a sunny clime on the public account.
