My soil-grown plants always have more root system at the same size as your plant and bubblers are supposed to have a different root structure which your roots dont seem to have?

Are you using an airstone or are you just splashing the water around with the pump?

I havent done a bubbler yet but I suggest you compare pics of the amount of aeration your roots are getting compared to others pictures.

Blah I just re-read your thread and it seems you arent using an airstone - give it a try and watch the roots change.

and the hole cutter for larger holes is a next on my shopping list, the novelty is starting to wear off the jigsaw ...

the best thing for this is a jet butane lighter and regular kitchen knife thats sharp with small serrations, heat the pre-drawn circle youve drawn and heat the knife and slide it through like a knife through butter, it works no matter how thick the plastic is. I got a jigsaw and tried them big hole saws, jigsaw I never tried for bucket lids, but I used a big hole saw in my drill press to cut into a tub thing and it shattered.

Anyhoo tabbycat, the lesson here is not to veg under flouros, I think you should always veg with the same wattage or same level of lighting (wpsf of HID), the vegetative period isn't just getting the plant to the right size to flower, you gotta care for vegging plants just as well as flowering plants, the more tight the internodes and less stressed the plants are in veg the more yield in the end.

Also my root systems usually put on a heap of weight during flowering.
