My new cloning box

Recommended Posts

Hey yeah...I'm thinkin lgm Luke Skywalker...did you see that post I put in with link too overgow.com??? Some one has done (I think) exactly what you are speaking of...

Frankly,,,I think Lukes question is a brilliant idea...I'm going to try that too...using netpots and clay to root the clones...

My question is this,,,assuming I choose to sacrifice some cloning space...and put new clones in net pot to root...what would be the ideal position for the base of the clone relative to the net pot??? If you don't understand what I'm getting at please have a look at that link I put in page three..there's a little pic of what I'm speaking off - only the netpots are much smaller...

And, do you think it would be possible to grow 3-4 foot tall plants in netpots that size??? or is that size a waste of time for flowering???

as far as positioning the stem in the netpot, I don't really know. As long as it was getting wet it wouldn't matter I'm guessing.

as far as the size of your netpot it doesn't matter for your roots. the size of your water tub below and amount of bubbles are the most important. The net pot/expanded clay is only there to support the plant, nothing more, nothing less. so if you want to grow a big plant in a small net pot you may need to look at fixing the net pot in place on a solid lid or tieing/supporting plant above so it doesn't tip over.

PS - what does "lgm" mean?

Hey pipe, that foam will get wet and hold water which could lead to mould.

you may have a point Tom. but if people can clone in rockwool and not get mould why can't I use a little foam? :o not fair! lol

ah well, see how it goes...

little green men but it could be large green mullie

Still don't understand how they clone in clay...

Have you seen Rattdog's dwc setup??? It's also on overgrow... those plates...seem to be floating in the nutes...if that is so...why is the water lever so high???

Hows this..... Small 2 inch or so netpots, the ones they use for lettuce and such in NFT, make an aerocloner and put the clone to be rooted into this.... The small netpot would have small expanded clay pieces as a media, and the bubbles from below in the aerocloner would splash the netpot and start the clone.... Now, once rooted, and the very first roots are starting to come out of the small netpot, take the whole netpot out, there'll be no roots outside so it should just slip out. Then remove the clone by immersing the whole netpot and clone in a bucket, the expanded clay should just float away gently, no damage to the roots! Then repot the rooted cutting into 6 inch netpot and install into dwc system for veg and flowering.... Or you could just put the smaller netpot into the larger one and surround it with larger clay..... no repotting then, but I'm not sure about how well a small netpot fits into the larger ones.....

Just throwing a couple of ideas out there....

p.s. My missus says that igm means imagination? I don't know what it means now, I thought it was an I not a L.... lol

ha ha. I just had the best idea. Leggo! You could have two pices joined together with a hole drilled down the middle and sits over a large hole in the lid, and when its time to pull the rooted clone just separate the pieces. You could even have a corner piece glued to the clone lid to keep it all in place.

might try and make it to a toy store today and see what they have. lol

Works for me, get one of the cheap soft plastic imitations though, Lego is made of that plastic that can shatter when drilled.
