My new cloning box

Recommended Posts

thanks people, some good ideas there I reckon :o hey Luke thanks for the tip, I agree it would be better to have the airline coming in over the top.

great to see some brainstorming being initiated. I mean its not like we really need to, could probably clone just as easily with rockwool cubes and a humidity dome, but where's the fun in that? lol

True, it is a bit boring to watch, isn't it? :o I may go with an aero-cloner for my next indoor.... Here's a q for ya... If you take clones, put them in the aero-cloner, they start to form roots..... Could you just leave them there, providing they had a larger cloning box and so on, and grow them to the flowering height, then move them into your flowering room? I'm trying to say, could you combine the veg and cloning stages together, so you only need two rooms, one for clone and veg, and the other for flowering? If the newly grown clones are put into a DWC sys in the flowering room, of course..... Any thoughts? lol

yeah I have thought of that. no reason why you couldn't create a shallow water culture and start to veg clones in the "aero cloner" Only thing is you'd have to set up a support lid that could be cut away, because its likely the stems and roots would become too big to pull back through the holes. maybe thats where the "milk bottle cap" idea will come into its own. lol

Maybe for this you could use a larger lid, like a gatorade bottle or something similar to get an appropriate size.... lol Then again, maybe the clones should simply be started in netpots in the first place, (would that work?) then there would definitely be a large enough hole to transplant, roots and all into the flowering room.... Provided you don't grow them on for too long tho.....hmmmm.... This has got my little brain going now! I'll get back to you on this..... :o

I use 2 rooms; one for veg, one for flower. Used to use veg room for cloning as well, just kept the babys away from the light, so not to cook em. The clones seemed to root quickly, but took a while longer to establish a veging pattern,..not sure why,. i put it down to not rooting using fluros??

Do you know how big roots grow in established plants in DWC? one of my plants roots would fill about 10-15 litre bucket ! SO u would need alot of room for them to grow to full maturity in a tub, thats why its best to veg for a week or so, then flower,, that way roots dont grow too big. Feel free to correct me if im wrong.. lol

You're a better artist than I am Putard, but I'm worried about that mutant plant on the left, what nutrients are you using? lol

The next problem is that now we have reduced the amount of clones Pipeman can fit in his cloner due to the space used up by the milk lids, what about soft drink tops? Too high?

yeah Luke I've seen versions of the cheapo aero using net pots & expanded clay, so when rooted you just lift the net pot and place straight in your DWC. But if you're going to do that you may as well have them in the DWC to start with IMO.

OK, so here's what I did. I drilled out my holes with the largest drill bit I had (9mm I think). I cut up some pieces of foam then just stick the clones through with the foam plugging the gap and providing support. SHould have no trouble pulling rooted clones out of 9mm holes.

Hey yeah...I'm thinkin lgm Luke Skywalker...did you see that post I put in with link too overgow.com??? Some one has done (I think) exactly what you are speaking of...

Frankly,,,I think Lukes question is a brilliant idea...I'm going to try that too...using netpots and clay to root the clones...

My question is this,,,assuming I choose to sacrifice some cloning space...and put new clones in net pot to root...what would be the ideal position for the base of the clone relative to the net pot??? If you don't understand what I'm getting at please have a look at that link I put in page three..there's a little pic of what I'm speaking off - only the netpots are much smaller...

And, do you think it would be possible to grow 3-4 foot tall plants in netpots that size??? or is that size a waste of time for flowering???

oh yeha,,,here's another link...about veging clones...

here they are loaded up again. Is it my imagination or are these suckers growing????? Is it possible for clones to grow before they have roots?

The extra clone in the other tub was born when I accidently snapped a branch when checking the flowers on one of my main plants. lol

I was gonna spread them between the two tubs, but I think unrooted clones like crowds :o
