Brainstorm: How can we push legalisation?

Recommended Posts

but when you look at it, cannabis law reform in canada is going backwards. And recently they have allowed the US DEA to extradite a Canadian citizen Mark Emery for his business operations within Canada.

He has not been extradited yet, that is incorrect. He is still in Canada. Off their website "On May 28th, 2007 they will appear in a BC Supreme Court to begin the extradition hearing, scheduled to last 5 full days. The US Prosecutors will attempt to extradite these three Canadian cannabis activists to the US, where they face 10 years to life in prison."

At the moment there is a fairly decent chance that the Supreme court will rule in Emery's favour, however from everything I have read, it appears this process can be appealed once more? I dunno that might not be quite correct but something like that.

I also don't think that saying it is going backwards is correct really either. There will always be hurdles and stumbling blocks, but if you keep pushing for long enough stuff really does happen. It really wasn't that long ago in Canada that it was illegal to be in possession of even a book related to cannabis, or any other illicit drug for that matter.

I personally think people like Marc Emery are people we all need to help support, if he could do it in Canada im sure he could help us get the ball rolling here. Once that ball gets rolling we will eventually get what we want, but it is gonna take a while so the longer we sit on our arses and do sfa the longer we are going to be waiting.

And as to be made a target by standing up for your rights, thats just the way this shit goes. If you believe in something well enough to at least be in here discussing it with us then, like myself, you could not tell me that you wouldnt give it all away for the hope of some day having it again without the social stigma and fear of been busted all the time.

One person in each state needs to rally together a couple of thousand of us like minded people and start peacefully protesting for our rights to this great plant. If you can do this in a co-ordinated fashion about a month or 2 before a federal election, at least it might get some sort of nationally televised attention, maybe even a debate of some sort. We need to try something!

Remember we know the facts, there are studies to prove it. Just keep pumping out the evidence!

my 2 cents... again... hehe

peace

Pipeman: Canada's cannabis law reform movement is going from strength to strength, things are progressing extremely well over there. It's no longer a fringe issue and many Politicians are now getting involved, the public debate has well and truly shifted, and medicinal users are mounting another round of court challenges in the coming months. More and more scrutiny is being applied to the MMAR/MMAD and Health Canada's dismal implementation. No matter how Emery's case concludes, 2007 is going to be a big year.

So when people decide they want to get into marijuana activism, they should go in with the realistic approach that they're not going to instigate any major changes that will see cannabis legalised in our lifetime, they are just part of the long hard process of trying to make at least one person understand the injustice of the laws and police attitudes we have to live with.

This is a terrible attitude to have. At the very least, each one of us is MORE than capable of changing the opinion of tens or hundreds of people. You don't have to come out of the closet to do that, hell you don't even have to be seen as a cannabis user or supporter - prohibition's economic tentacles impact on all of our lives in many harmful ways. If we could keep the topic focused on prohibition itself, then the war would be over rapidly. Sadly, our opponents have gotten very good at what they do - misinformation, misdirection, distraction, fear-mongering. We need to realise this and understand what and how they are doing this before we can ever hope to fight back and make our case on an even playing field.

but if you go in with the idea that you're going to get cannabis legalised or decriminalised you're quickly going to lose heart and quit when you realise thats next to impossible. :peace:

If you go into this fight with legalisation as your first goal - absolutely! There is a lot of work to be done before this is even a possibility - we must first build a network of people who are committed to this fight, organise them and gain experience with simple projects and challenges, build towards medium and long term goals instead of charging into the fray without any idea of what we're doing. And as you well know, trying to even get our own people interested in contributing to such a project - *that* is the true hurdle. Convincing the public is going to be relatively easy, all of the evidence and truth is on our side, but getting people to stand up for what they believe in? Hey we're Aussies, not Canadian!!! :scratchin:

You know it is possible to have power over the government and I dont mean by having are protest or starting a political party because alot of cannabis smokers dont always want to vote a cannabis party in to there government and protest dont always have much affect.

What you want to do is what the churches do in the US mass vote, think about it if you could get some group or union started that had 10 thousand members that all voted the same then the government would start to listen, if you had 100 thousand members that all voted the same way you would have a voice that the government cant ignore :scratchin:

hold a march every march in the main area of the main city of each state every month. make sure there are the thousands of tokers marching, too many to be arrested. They will eventually have to legalise it to kill all the fuss. flaw: you need to have prior organisation and contact the government and have them give you the ok for it to be a legal march..... but who said only bad comes from something illegal? lol oh and if the march becomes a regular thing then it may become used to it and not be bothered.... and ne way, want toker would pass up the opportunity to have a massive smoke up? lol... this is just a radical idea fairly far fetched right now.... just have a laugh of the images it makes in your head lol
