Water Curing

Recommended Posts

I was reading up on curing today and came across "Water Curing" - not sure if this has already been posted but I found it a really interesting idea :scratchin

I'm wondering if anyone has used this method and if so, can you comment on the loss of flavour which can result ?

the increase in potency maybe compensates, but I really judge my smoke by its smell and by the smoking flavour - potency is important ... but I don't mind smokin a little extra if the flavour is good :peace:

tried it, ya end up with crispy grey coloured buds that smoke harsh and tasteless with no noticeable increase in potency, dont waste ya buds.... only cure is slow cure.

Hey WC, were they grey to start with? "grey coloured buds" makes me instantly think of mold unless they were that colour to start.

BTW - completely disagree with you on curing, I've done both water and "normal" slow-curing more than once, here are my observation.

- Slow-curing (sealed containers that are "burped) provides the most flavour and aroma with the buds.

- Water curing (buds immersed completely in water for at least 7 days and then quick-dried) provides a very "clean" type smoke, with almost no weed flavour or aroma.

Personally I like slow-curing the best, but water-curing is a good method to use if you have some buds that you don't like the taste of. Alternatively it's good if you want buds that can be smoked quickly after harvest.

Next harvest I will be "water-curing" half of the yield from my NL plant, the potency is good but I just don't like the smell or taste of the strain.

Heya Eikel

thanks dude - I think I'm gonna give it a blast with some of whatever I end up with :reallyexcited:

I was reading that it it can increase the thc to budweight ratio by like 30% - you end up with less bud, but its stronger :scratchin ... gotta see how much of the flavour is lost .. thats whats really on my mind rather than the speed of the cure .... definately gonna be looking for large glass jars soon :peace:

Eikel I'm sure white cluster knows how to identify mould  :peace:

Well, if you know him, then cool, you would be expected to know that. I, would not.

If you got "grey" harsh-tasting buds when performing a water-cure, something was wrong with the process - not that anything DONE was incorrect, could be anything from tempratures to a pathogen in the water.

Why must you be so adversarial towards me mate? :scratchin

I'm not mate just a friendly dig.  If you don't know him do a search of his posts here.  He's only got a couple thousand or so.

I saw he had alot of posts, but most ones I've seen have involved debates/arguments rather than growing. No offense intended of course - I'm newer than WC so probably wasn't a member when he was posting grow-diaries.

In any case, Water Curing does work fine is what I was getting at.

yer thats pretty much same description eh, flavourless, I dont want that, love bud flavour if got a strain with shit flavour then turf it, the way the buds dry quick after coming out what makes em harsher then slowdryed, and same as quick dry pot dont have the right colour, by grey i mean dull eh...

I used bottled water and I dont smoke no mould.
