Heyas For some time I've been using silica rocks for my plants as opposed to a liquid additive. A lot of you guys, even the regulars havent heard of this. Did a google on the brand name i buy (maidenwell) and found out its from QLD. Dunno where u eastern state guys can get it from locally, but in the meantime check out ; http://www.maidenwell.com I use a single 2-7mm bag for 4x 50 lt pots as a 1:1:2 ratio with clay balls and perlite. Incidentally, it cost $22 and the website says that the rocks should be good for a years worth of use. Says that a 20-50% mix is best with other medium, which is about right cause I'm at 25% and its a sweet spot. Benefit of the rock…

Hi all 3 quick questions :) What are some methods that I can use to keep my nutrient tank cool? I want it to be on 21c all the time. Does the water from the nutrient tank and the water from the bubbler buckets (in my case 1 bucket) get rotated around? Or does all the water in the tank just get sucked through the connecting lines to the bubblers when the level drops? How do I get the plant growing in the clayballs and the roots established enough but without planting any rockcubes etc in the clay? treestump

OK I have a rather unusual setup for those who aren't familiar the link is below. Though I grow a kind of hydro set up I know very little about hydro. I need to know if there is a piece of information available that lists the ppm's of nutrients that plants prefer in Hydro. And is DWC or recirculating systems different in feeding requirements, if so, why? Do temperatures play a part in nutritional uptake of plants (they affect fish feeding rates) Also, what does the conventional test type equipment that growers use test for? Nitrate? Phosphate? Etc. Do testers give you seperate figures for seperate nutes? With these figures, some equipment, and similar figures …

I see people talking about how they paid so much for this and that and it makes me laugh. One guy I was talking to told me how he paid $400 for this clone machine and he still couldn’t get good clones. Then he spun some shit about how he spent twice that much for a DWC set-up. At first I laughed to myself but then I just felt sorry for him. More dollars than sense. A few weeks back I was reading a thread here from Tom about how to build a grow room. I have to say it was pretty ghetto, but that’s what I liked about it. So I thought I would start my own thread about ghetto set-ups. I was looking at a plant I grew and thought I better take a clone. So I chopped it and st…

Hi all. We're using an NFT Hyrdoponic setup for a cupboard grow, based around a 35 litre Turbo Tank (www.turbotank.com.au). The plants are a couple of weeks away from flowering, and the root mat is looking thick with healthy roots, however a few roots are growing down through the drainage slot and into the reservoir. Will this pose a problem? It doesn't seem to be threatening to block the drain and they aren't threatening the pump of heater either. But should I trim these back anyway? If I do, is it likely to harm the plants? Thanks in advance.

NFT System

Just realised I have a shitload of 100mm NFT guttering out the back. Its the proper white stuff... I jacked it from my old work, they were chucking it out the back and I just remembered I had it down the shed. I have about 5x 1.5m lengths of it. Will 100mm NFT Guttering be wide enough? Ill be getting some clones this week or next week, and they will have to go outdoors until I move into a place in 14 days... so I was thinking of potting them up to the 7cm rockwool blocks, then letting them root in there for a few days... then when I move in I can grow them in the 100mm NFT system.. After all, all I need for the NFT system is a large tub ($10) and a pump ($20) and theres…
