PRESS RELEASE PRESS RELEASE PRESS RELEASE PRESS RELEASE 25 NOVEMBER 2002 The Nimbin HEMP Embassy is collecting data on how the police conduct themselves in their annual pre Christmas cannabis raids which begin today in the Tweed Valley. Residents are asked to call the Embassy at (02) 6689 1842 or email at hemp@nrg.com.au with information. For years we've had to put up with their Rambo tactics and now we are serious about monitoring their behaviour and anything untoward will be reported in the proper manner. "NSW police insist on valuing every plant, male or female, including seedlings, at $2000 each. It's the same situation every year" said Andrew Kavasilas, from…

Victoria Police Assistant Commissioner Ray Shuey said yesterday that 29 per cent of drivers involved in fatal accidents in 2000-01 were drug-affected, up…

Nimbin HEMP Bar's defence following raid by 35 police, dogs etc. I plead guilty for political reasons, because I have willingly and knowingly been breaking the laws specifically regarding cannabis, but, not with malicious criminal intent, but in order to find a way forward. I have been a full time cannabis activist for several years participating in the 1999 NSW drug summit, a two and a half month tour we called the "Freedom Ride" around the jails of NSW, I have run the worlds first live webcam in cannabis cafe demonstration model, and various other cannabis related demonstrations, I am totally committed to the cause of cannabis law reform. Found this in Ninemsn's National Health News: Cannabis use rises in Indigenous areas Aborigines in remote Australia are increasingly using more cannabis than the rest of the community and there are fears amphetamine use might rise. New research published in the Medical Journal of Australia shows a dramatic rise in cannabis use in the Northern Territory and concerns about rates in central Australia. More than half the men in one area of Arnhem Land (55 per cent) and 13 per cent of women reported they used cannabis, compared to 31 per cent and eight per cent six years ago. The rises were blamed on the rapid development of trafficking to eastern Arnhem Land communi…

A new machine imported from England is processing linseed straw into flax fibre, kenaf and industrial hemp. Cambooya farmer and company director David House says there is a huge demand for renewable fibres, with flax, kenaf and industrial hemp fibres being used in car mats, carpet underlays, concrete and soil conservation mats. He says if large enough commercial markets are secured, it could offer farmers alternative winter and summer crops, to rival wheat and cotton. Mr House says samples of the…

Source: ABC News The New South Wales Government is being accused of moving too slowly in allowing some people to legally use cannabis for therapeutic relief. Patients with chronic pain from cancer, HIV/AIDS and other illnesses came to NSW Parliament, calling on the Government to legalise cannabis for the use of pain relief. Premier Bob Carr has supported the idea of a trial of cannabis for medical purposes. One of the patients, Ron, says politicians are happy to talk in favour of the plan but keep failing to implement it. He says patients with severe pain who use cannabis do not want to feel like criminals. "When is somebody going to do something?" he asked. "…
