Legal cannabis sale plan slammed May 6, 2008 - 11:59PM A proposal by the head of a Sydney drug and alcohol clinic that cannabis should be sold legally at post offices has been branded irresponsible by an anti-drug group. St Vincent's Hospital drug and alcohol service director Alex Wodak argued that cannabis should be legalised and distributed by the government, which would then be able to reap the resulting tax revenue. Drug Free Australia chair Craig Thompson rejected Dr Wodak's proposal. "At a time when the most reputable evidence points to the increased harms of cannabis, it seems highly irresponsible from a person in Dr Wodak's position to make such a statemen…

Some members of Minnesota's law enforcement community are lying in order to kill MPP’s medical marijuana bill in the state — in other words, in order to keep patients in pain. This small but vocal contingent is claiming that marijuana has no medical value, that “every prosecutor in every medical marijuana state” opposes its use, that you can “overdose” on marijuana, and more than a dozen other outrageous lies. We’re fighting back. Yesterday, MPP held a news conference at the Minnesota statehouse to refute the outright false testimony that law enforcement officials have been providing the legislature and the news media. And we distributed to reporters and legislators an …

From the ABC: Can't be anything but good. Too many zero-tolerance drug policy advocates have been able to use the 'no evidence of harmlessness' crutch because too many governments have actively interfered with cannabis research, preventing the assembly of a credible body of evidence. However, keep in mind that this study is being done by the government's 'National Cannabis Prevention and Information Centre.' Whatever they come up with will be biased toward reduction or cessation of cannabis use, sort of out of the universal 'drugs-r-bad-mkay' box. They probably won't take into account that many cannabis users self medicate for physical or psychological disco…

Cannabis was controversially downgraded by Tony Blair in a move which is thought to have encouraged greater use among the young After becoming Prime Minister last June,…

Legalise all drugs, says prison doctor By Susanna Dunkerley April 19, 2008 03:32pm Article from: AAP Font size: + - Send this article: Print Email ALL drugs should be legalised to help address addiction and prison overloading, a doctor told the Australia 2020 summit today. Wendell Rosevear, a GP who has worked in the prison system for more than 30 years, said people would change their behaviour only if they were given choices. "I want to give drug addicts choices and I want to legalise all drugs in Australia," he said.
